Job Overview
The Florida Department of Health is hiring a NURSING PROGRAM SPECIALIST (Position #) to support the TB, Primary Care, and Specialty Care Clinics in Hernando County. The role coordinates care, provides specialized nursing assessment, case management, and preventive services, and serves as backup for Epidemiology and Linkage to Care. Pay: $60,000.00 - $62,000.00 annually. Posting closes on 07/26/2026.
Responsibilities- Provide nursing assessment and case management for clients in TB, Primary Care, and Specialty Care Clinics.
- Take and record medical history, vital signs, and issue prescribed medications under protocol.
- Document in chart using S.O.A.P. method.
- Teach healthy lifestyles, family planning, and risk reduction.
- Provide referral information and facilitate continuity of care.
- Advise clients on test results and counsel on preventive measures.
- Develop individualized care plans.
- Review abnormal lab reports and consult with physicians.
- Provide nursing assessments and treatments per Nurses Standing Orders for STDs, TB, and other conditions.
- Provide nondirective counseling.
- Serve as backup for Linkage to Care, ensuring newly diagnosed and re-engaged clients receive medical treatment.
- Provide Pre‑ and Post‑HIV counseling.
- Assist physicians and APRNs with medical procedures per department procedures.
- Maintain inventory logs for medications issued and order medications through ADAP/PAC.
- Provide TB program assessment and case management for active and preventive therapy clients.
- Coordinate Directly Observed Therapy, Virtual DOT, and consult with TB Specialists.
- Provide TB education to new employees and annual updates to staff.
- Serve as backup for Epidemiology, on‑call, surveillance, response, documenting in MERLIN, and collaborate with infection prevention and medical providers.
- Provide community health education on HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis.
- Submit program reports as requested.
- Secure and maintain confidential data per electronic records guidelines.
- Maintain professional knowledge through educational opportunities.
- Perform other related duties as needed.
- Merlin, Epi Com, basic biostatistics, basic epidemiology, familiarity with Excel, Power Point, Epi Info.
- Knowledge of the theories and concepts of preventive health care.
- Knowledge of nursing principles, practices and techniques in specialized areas.
- Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology.
- Knowledge of community resources and organizations.
- Knowledge of the principles of adult learning.
- Skill in the application of nursing theory in specialized areas.
- Ability to teach professional nurses and other members of the community through outreach opportunities.
- Ability to assess and prioritize service and personnel needs in a specialized area.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to coordinate and evaluate a specialized or educational nursing program.
- Current, active Florida Registered Nursing license or a multistate license from another Compact State as required by Florida statutes.
- Valid driver license.
- Experience using computers to document medical care.
- Experience in TB and/or HIV.
- Experience in the immunization clinic.
- Experience working in a medical office or clinic setting.
