SUMMARY:
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing routine maintenance tasks. Performs electrical, carpentry, plumbing, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning maintenance and other duties as assigned.
Job Duties
- Inspects buildings and other structures to determine functional systems and detect malfunctions and needed repair, making notes and recommendations.
- Performs minor electrical maintenance to include but not limited to replacement or repair of fixtures (e.g. wall switches and outlets, incandescent and fluorescent bulbs and tubes, ballast, sockets, fuses, minor appliances, cords, etc.) using appropriate hand, power, and specialty tools.
- Performs minor plumbing maintenance (e.g. replacement or repair of leaks in drains and faucets, unclogging or drains, replacing drain hoses, etc.).
- Performs minor painting, carpentry, and masonry work.
- Provides regulatory oversight of hazardous waste generators; conducts inspections to ensure regulatory compliance in storage, treatment, handling, minimization, transportation, disposal, and record keeping related to the generation of hazardous waste.
- Ensures all systems are regularly maintained (e.g. fire and security systems, elevator inspections, etc.) and liaises with outside vendors, contractors, and inspectors to assure these inspections and necessary repairs are done on a regular basis.
- Reconfigures, installs, positions, and remounts modular offices and space to accommodate user needs and maximize office space using various hand, power, and specialty tools, dollies, and hand trucks.
- Prepares the surfaces and paints various structures and equipment to preserve wood and metal parts from corrosion and maintain a safe, comfortable working environment using various painting equipment and related tools.
- Orders parts and maintains required documents.
- Performs other work‑related duties as assigned.
- High school education or equivalent.
- Two years’ working experience in facility maintenance.
- Basic understanding of electrical, plumbing, and carpentry.
- Industrial Maintenance Degree/Certificate preferred.
- Customer service orientation.
- Ability to use common maintenance tools.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.

- Ability to understand and follow directions as given.
Ability to add and subtract two‑digit numbers.
Reasoning abilityAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Certificates, licenses, registrationsCurrent valid driver’s license. Must be able to travel, as required.

The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee may need to ascend/descend ladders, scaffolds, stairs, and works in confined spaces. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
