The Maintenance Mechanic performs all types of mechanical jobs throughout the assigned area, maintaining plant equipment and facilities to meet operating requirements and objectives during and outside of regular operation schedules and maintenance.
Job Responsibilities- Perform maintenance mechanic assignments on plant equipment and facilities.
- Collect data for preventative and predictive plant maintenance projects.
- Perform millwright assignments such as bearing replacement, equipment alignment, and inspection and repair of power transmission per plant standards.
- Perform welding and cutting assignments including fabrication of plant equipment and structures and repair of worn process equipment per plant standards.
- Inspect lubrication for mechanical equipment, record data for running equipment, take lab samples as required, drain oil and change oil and filters on all equipment reservoirs.
- Perform pipefitter assignments to install, maintain, and inspect existing and future piping structures on all types of piping systems.
- Operate mobile equipment to assist with completing maintenance duties.
- Perform plumbing inspection and repair on plant equipment and facilities.
- Adhere to all CEMEX, OSHA, and MSHA rules and regulations at all times and wear proper safety equipment while on plant grounds.
- Meet or exceed company safety standards.
- Perform other job responsibilities as assigned by management.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Prior mechanical experience or welding experience, training or certification required.
- Prior plant maintenance mechanic experience a plus.
- Bi‑lingual (a plus).
- Ability to carry out not only simple, but complex oral and written instructions and to deal with problems from standardized situations based on work experience.
- Good mathematical skills, including basic math, fractions and conversions of four- to five-digit numbers and common units of measurement in both metric and decimal systems.
- Ability to read and understand English sufficiently to read technical information contained in manuals, reports, and mechanical work instructions, including safety issues and matters.
- Ability to communicate well with supervisors, welders, leadmen, other mechanics, maintenance personnel, co‑workers, and outside contractors.
- Electrical and mechanical knowledge to detect potential safety hazards and breakdown of plant and quarry machinery and equipment and respond accordingly.
- Ability to identify and select the appropriate material and equipment necessary to perform the correct mechanical work and repair.
- High level of attentiveness and physical coordination to perform the work activities safely and productively.
- Continuous exposure to extreme heat, extreme cold, extreme noise, and outdoor work.
- Must wear protective equipment while on the location.
- Must be able to perform all job functions including walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, turning, climbing, and/or pulling of controls.
- Heavy work exerting up to 100 pounds occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 20 pounds constantly to move objects.
- Must be able to talk and hear to communicate with employees and visitors and to function safely around heavy rolling equipment.
