Job DescriptionEquipment Operator in District Seven / Director of Trans Operations / District Maintenance / Brooksville Operations. This position maintains state roadway systems through equipment operation, bridge and roadway maintenance, and equipment servicing.
Your Specific Responsibilities- Operate front‑end loaders, skid‐steer loaders, graders, lift equipment, tractor‑trailer, drainage vacuum trucks, small bulldozers, asphalt repair trucks, and other small/medium equipment while performing bridge and roadway maintenance.
- Perform minor equipment maintenance (fluid checks, brake adjustments, tire pressure, cleaning and washing equipment).
- Use hand, pneumatic, and electrical tools for bridge and roadway maintenance.
- Conduct manual labor tasks with minimal supervision.
- Carry out tree trimming, rough carpentry, masonry, painting, and assistance in assembling and erecting highway signs.
- Operate and maintain temporary traffic control equipment, assist with crew activity reports, and respond to emergencies (24‑hour on‑call duty).
- Knowledge of mathematical calculations and standard safety rules and procedures.
- Skills in operating a variety of hand and power tools, and performing minor maintenance on small/medium equipment and vehicles.
- Ability to operate a variety of heavy equipment, maintain and repair highways, bridges and other highway structures, communicate effectively, develop and maintain working relationships, lift and carry up to 50 pounds, perform physical tasks such as stooping, climbing, squatting, pushing, pulling, crawling, and working outdoors in varied conditions, work independently, and stand for extended periods.
- Must respond to emergencies and be on‑call 24 hour duty when necessary.
- Must be able to operate a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) and possess a valid Class B CDL with air brakes at time of hire.
- Must obtain and maintain Intermediate Level Temporary Traffic Control (MTM) certification within one year.
- Must be able to work with or around Department of Corrections inmates.
- One year of experience operating small/medium equipment and vehicles.
- Valid Class B CDL with air brakes.
