A Brief Overview

Children's Hospital of Philadelphia's Allergy Department is seeking multiple Registered Nurses with strong assessment skills, has the ability to multitask, has knowledge of allergic conditions, time management skills, and is highly organized. The responsibilities of the Allergy Nurse will be to provide direct patient care and implement procedures such as skin testing, PFT, and FeNO testing, IM and Sub-q injections and administer medications.

The Allergy Nurse will also provide education to patients and their families by reviewing information with return demonstration, and answer questions during patient visits. Allergy Nurses care for patients with the following conditions:

  • Food Allergies
  • Asthma
  • Allergic Rhinitis
  • Atopic Dermatitis/Eczema
  • Urticaria
  • Eosinophilic Esophagitis

Additionally, the Allergy Department has their Food Challenges Clinic. The Allergy Nurse will administer food to patients in a controlled setting to diagnose food allergies, observe, and intervene for acute allergic reactions. Other tasks will include phone triage, review plan of care, review of asthma and food allergy plans and prescription refills.

The Allergy Clinic's operational hours are 7am-7pm Monday-Friday and will be offering future Saturday hours between 7am-4pm. The shift will be dependent upon operational need.

What You Will Do
  • Practice
  • Follows Nursing Process to deliver safe care: assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Synthesizes patient assessment data and recognizes complex situations prior to communicating with care team.
  • Collaborates with family, team members and other caregivers to initiate/update plan of care, patient/family education.
  • Manages care of complex patients utilizing proper prioritization and delegation to appropriate staff.
  • Identifies expected outcomes and revises plan of care when unexpected outcomes arise and begins to use full range of communication as a means of conveying plan.
  • Documentation reflects ongoing evaluation and effectiveness of patient care utilizing current standards, policies and procedures.
  • Provides care that meets professional standards of practice and meets regulatory requirements.

  • Interacts with parents/patients and colleagues with respect and dignity while focusing on ideas to improve on the ideal patient experience.
