Job Description & How to Apply Below

Episcopal School of Acadiana is seeking a dynamic and engaging Middle School Science Teacher to join our faculty. This position primarily includes teaching seventh-grade life science, with the possibility of teaching additional middle school courses based on the candidate’s experience, expertise, and academic background.

Science at ESA is taught not only as a body of knowledge but also as a method for inquiry and discovery. Students learn best through hands-on, discussion-based lessons in which they collaborate with peers and teachers to solve problems and answer questions. Teachers use the Socratic method in laboratory investigations, field experiences, and class discussions to foster curiosity, participation, and critical thinking.

In seventh-grade life science, students explore what defines living things by examining the structures and systems that support life. Topics include viruses, bacteria, protozoa, cells, plants, animal groups, human organ systems, and human growth and development. Through labs, research projects, group work, and discussion of short readings, students develop strong observation, communication, and research skills while building academic confidence and maturity.

Depending on departmental needs and the candidate’s qualifications, additional teaching responsibilities may include other middle school courses or related subjects. The ideal candidate will engage students in a variety of instructional strategies that foster enthusiasm and intellectual curiosity, embrace experiential and inquiry-based learning, create a structured yet supportive classroom environment, communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues, and contribute positively to the life of the school community.

A Bachelor’s degree is required, and a Master’s degree or higher is preferred. ESA welcomes applications from early-career educators, though three or more years of teaching experience is preferred.

ESA is a coeducational, college-preparatory day school serving students in grades PK3 through 12. Our mission is to instill in every student the habits of scholarship and honor. ESA challenges its students to develop intellectually, spiritually, and physically within a supportive and dynamic learning community.
