Job Summary

Delta Utilities is seeking a Specialist, Engineering Gas to create basic and intermediate natural gas distribution and transmission system designs. The specialist will manage small and medium-sized projects from design through completion, including preparation of plans, specifications, permits, and contracts. Responsibilities also include designing new or relocated pipe facilities, issuing orders on natural gas distribution facilities for subdivisions, system improvements, and public improvement projects, under the close supervision of an engineer or engineering manager.

Accountabilities

and Essential Functions
  • Design basic and intermediate gas distribution facilities and associated support systems, including cathodic protection.
  • Prepare long‑range capacity piping plans, easements, permits, bid packages, contracts, relocation and letter agreements, redline/greenline proposals, regulatory proposals for service‑area certification, and main‑replacement program documentation packets.
  • Prepare cost estimates, material specifications and schedules, system capacity and pressure‑study modeling and analyses.
  • Submit construction drawings for facilities.
  • Prepare economic feasibility studies and make customer‑contribution recommendations for new loads and system replacement work.
  • Present findings to customers and management.
  • Manage deadlines to complete projects on time and within budget.
  • Coordinate efforts with customers and government agencies.
  • Provide design support to local gas operations.
  • Develop operational procedures for project completion and communicate with district employees when necessary to resolve issues or assist with problems.
Minimum Requirements Education
  • High‑school education or equivalent knowledge of English, basic mathematics, grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
Experience
  • Associate Specialist, Engineering Gas: up to 2 years of experience in construction, utility operations, utility support roles, or related industry experience.
  • Specialist, Engineering Gas: 5 years of experience in construction, utility operations, utility support roles, or related industry experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Perform other job‑related duties as assigned within your scope of responsibilities.
  • Comprehend, document, calculate, visualize, and analyze engineering data.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of company safety rules within 6 months of employment.
  • Identify abnormal operating conditions and adapt to evolving technology (e.g., electronic mapping, leak‑detection data).
  • Communicate effectively with all levels of management and associates; collaborate in a team environment.
  • Represent the company professionally in business etiquette and interactions with both private and public entities.
  • Cultivate relationships with business and community contacts to achieve business results.
  • Collaborate across functional boundaries to improve business processes.
  • Use PC software proficiently, including word processing, presentation tools, and spreadsheet programs.
  • Learn and use ArcGIS, hydraulic‑modeling software, AutoCAD, and other engineering‑related programs as required.
  • Motivate self, accomplish tasks, and achieve goals with minimal supervision.
  • Innovate solutions to problems with creativity and critical thinking.
  • Demonstrate effective project and time management to meet deadlines and stay within budget.
  • Multi‑task and manage several projects or activities concurrently.
  • Use initiative, sound judgment, and tact to complete assigned tasks.
  • Apply extensive knowledge of company policies, procedures, and DOT CFR 192 regulations.
  • Make sound decisions based on engineering and operational principles and company policies.
  • Commit to compliance with applicable laws and regulations, the company’s Ethics and Compliance Code of Conduct, and other company policies; complete required training courses in a timely manner.
