Position Description

Ryder is hiring a Refrigeration Diesel Technician in Broussard, Louisiana. The role offers weekly pay, a stable company, and excellent benefits.

As a Reefer Technician at Ryder, you’ll diagnose, overhaul, adjust, and repair a full range of trucks and trailers while focusing on refrigeration systems such as Thermo King and Carrier.

Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Vocational or technical certification, postsecondary degree or technical certifications preferred
  • Basic tools, required
  • Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines, including routine preventative maintenance (oil changes, brake and tire work), diagnostics and repairs (AC, electrical systems), and advanced skilled repairs (major engine repairs, diesel after treatment, automotive fuel injection repairs)
  • Four (4) years or more relevant work experience, preferred
  • Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A, preferred
  • All other certifications as required by location, required
Additional Requirements
  • Ability to perform all T3 tasks
  • Demonstrated advanced analytical and repair skills in vehicle maintenance
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills
  • Basic computer skills: PC, Windows, mouse, etc.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Availability for shift work, weekends, and on‑call duty as required
  • Prefer ASE Certification in PM, Brakes, A/C, Electrical, Electronics or ASE Master Mechanic
  • Proficiency operating shop computers and diagnostic test equipment
  • Minimum tool requirement
  • Road test vehicles as necessary
  • Ability to coach, mentor, and influence others
  • Must drive Ryder vehicles; must obtain CDL within 6 months after hire
  • Pass a Ryder drug test
  • Pass a DOT physical
  • Pass a Ryder road test
  • Pass a Ryder background and motor vehicle check, including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last 3 years
Responsibilities
  • Complete SBTIII training within 180 days (SBT
    220)
  • Complete all OEM on‑line diagnostic scan tool software courses within 365 days
  • Complete instructor‑led OEM courses as required to support location fleet mix
  • Perform vehicle maintenance and repair duties, including standard maintenance, preventive maintenance, and complex repairs with minimal support
  • Use internal and external maintenance documents for diagnosis and repair
  • Diagnose and repair complex mechanical and electronic problems using diagnostic computers/software when applicable
  • Perform remote triage with RCRC and customers to determine best solution for roadside breakdowns
  • Perform facility maintenance duties
  • Interact with customers/drivers to determine nature of complaint once assigned a task
  • Instruct and advise other technicians regarding maintenance repair procedures and diagnostics
  • Coach and mentor other technicians
  • Advise shop management and other technicians on shop repairs
  • Utilize key functions of Shop Management System and electronic documentation
  • Work in accordance with all federal, provincial, and corporate compliance guidelines (safety, DOT, MOT)
  • Other support duties as required to support operations, including Service Island support
