Compensation

Minimum Salary: $57,614.00

Maximum Salary: $93,138.00

Responsibilities
  • Assist a Maintenance Section Supervisor in overseeing work completed by crews and contractors to provide a safe driving thoroughfare within a designated geographical area.
  • Lead the work of transportation maintenance crews and support staff.
  • Respond to emergency notifications as needed.
  • Perform work independently on assignments; refer unusual issues to the supervisor.
  • Assist in issuing driveway permits and estimating the size of drainage pipes for driveways.
  • Assist the maintenance section supervisor in scheduling equipment, material and personnel for section projects.
  • Assist with planning, coordinating and implementing emergency response to inclement weather, accidents, and hazardous spills affecting area roadways.
  • Ensure all projects follow established safety guidelines.
  • Inspect road conditions, work‑in‑progress and work completed by crews and contractors.
  • Maintain records on materials, supplies and personnel.
  • Operate light and heavy roadway equipment as required.
  • Maintain operations of the section in absence of the supervisor.
  • Train employees on use of equipment and procedures.
  • Perform other job responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Education

High School Grad or Equivalent in general education.

Experience

6 years of experience in roadway maintenance or construction‑related work (full‑time or prorated part‑time experience). Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year‑per‑year basis.

Licenses and Certifications
  • Valid driver’s license; position requires operating a state vehicle.
  • Commercial Driver Certificate
  • Commercial Driver’s License
  • Knowledge of intermodal transportation engineering construction and maintenance work.
  • Application of plans, specifications and estimates preparation, review, processing and compliance requirements.
  • Materials used in highway/bridge construction and maintenance.
  • Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
  • Applicable industry safety standards, guidelines and specification codes.
  • Maintenance contract inspection procedures.
  • Incident management procedures.
  • Storage and transport of hazardous materials.
  • Using light highway equipment.
  • Leading, assigning, reviewing and monitoring the work of others.
  • Coordinating labor, materials and equipment.
  • Preparing and maintaining confidential and sensitive records, files and reports.
  • Training in a classroom, office, or field environment.
  • Maintaining a safe and effective working relationship with others.
