Travel:

Responsibilities- Lead a crew of transportation maintenance technicians and equipment operators performing skilled maintenance activities.
- Assist during accidents and emergency weather situations to sand bridges and roads, put up warning signs, and organize crew response.
- Assist in the administration of the maintenance section.
- Estimate and gather materials and equipment necessary to complete assignments.
- Inspect roads en route to and from job sites and report problems to supervisors.
- Maintain records of materials and equipment used and employee time sheets.
- Monitor materials testing and inventory of roadway maintenance materials.
- Operate light and heavy equipment.
- Perform some maintenance and repair on equipment and train crew members on equipment use.
- Serve as a lead worker: schedule daily work assignments; act as resource for complex questions and troubleshooting; present operational updates to the supervisor; provide input on team members’ career conversations; approve leave requests to ensure coverage.
- Perform other job responsibilities as assigned.
Education: High School Graduate or equivalent.
Experience: 5 years roadway maintenance related work. Full‑time or prorated part‑time experience equivalent. Related college education or technical training may substitute on a year‑per‑year basis.
Licenses and Certifications- Valid driver’s license – position requires driving a state vehicle.
- Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within 120 calendar days of employment. (Or possess one already.)
- Commercial driver’s license (CDL).
- Familiarity with methods, procedures, equipment, and materials used in intermodal transportation engineering construction and maintenance.
- Knowledge of the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
- Knowledge of procedures involving storage & transport of hazardous materials.
- Incident management procedures experience.
- Applicable industry safety standards, guidelines, and specification codes.
- Maintenance contract inspection procedures knowledge.
- Proficiency operating light and heavy highway equipment.
- Leadership skills: assigning, reviewing, and monitoring the work of others.
- Labor/materials/equipment coordination.
- Prioritization and organization of work assignments.
- Training experience in classroom, office, or field environments.
- Proficiency with hand and power tools, equipment, and mechanical devices of the trade.
- Maintenance of a safe working environment and relationships.
- Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Exercise logic and reasoning to define problems, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; make decisions supporting business objectives and goals.
