The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving our EHS programs to align with operational goals and ensure a safe, compliant, and sustainable workplace.
This role is responsible for the execution of the program in completion.
This role focuses on ensuring compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory bodies, conducting risk assessments, and leading safety audits to mitigate hazards.
The EHS Specialist will lead incident investigations, provide EHS training, and champion sustainability initiatives.
In addition, this role oversees facility maintenance, manages emergency preparedness, and ensures contractors adhere to EHS standards.
- EHS Program Development:
Design, implement, and continuously improve EHS policies, procedures, and training programs that align with our operational goals. - Compliance Management:
Ensure the company complies with OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory standards, maintaining proper documentation and reporting any incidents. - Risk Assessment:
Conduct regular workplace audits, risk assessments, and safety inspections to identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions. - Incident Investigation:
Lead investigations into workplace incidents, accidents, and near misses to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions. - Training &
Education:
Develop and deliver training sessions for employees on health and safety practices, emergency response protocols, and environmental stewardship. - Sustainability Initiatives:
Collaborate with leadership to drive environmental sustainability projects, such as waste reduction, energy efficiency, and pollution prevention. - Facility Management:
Oversee facility maintenance and safety, including managing physical building inspections, coordinating with vendors, and ensuring that equipment and systems are functioning optimally. - Emergency Preparedness:
Coordinate emergency response plans and drills, ensuring readiness for potential emergencies such as fires, chemical spills, or medical incidents. - Regulatory Reporting:
Prepare and submit reports to regulatory agencies as required, including injury logs, environmental permits, and safety performance metrics. - Vendor & Contractor Management:
Oversee third-party contractors and vendors to ensure they comply with EHS requirements and safety guidelines.
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related field.
- 2-5 years of experience in an EHS role, preferably in a startup or fast-paced environment.
- Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other relevant EHS regulations.
- Certification(s) such as CSP, ASP, or CIH (preferred but not required).
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to assess risk in a proactive manner.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to train and influence employees across all levels.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently in a fast-moving environment.
