Responsibilities
- Plan, direct, and supervise team members in day‑to‑day operations within various departments of the store.
- Serve as the mentor and coach for all team members.
- Implement strategies to improve customer service, drive store sales, and ensure quick and efficient service.
- Maintain store appearance during prime shopping hours, including product presentation and company standards.
- Provide courteous, friendly, and efficient service to customers and team members.
- Handle staffing, selection, and hiring to meet store staffing needs.
- Promote succession planning and provide career paths for team members.
- Document and apply disciplinary actions and recommend discharges.
- Manage the department’s P&L, achieve sales targets, and maintain shrink.
- Model exceptional, fast, and friendly customer service.
- Communicate the Meijer Friendly Initiative in all team meetings and conversations.
- Mentor and coach team members to exceed customer service and sales goals.
- Ensure the team is thoroughly trained in all aspects of their jobs and completes all required training.
- Spend the majority of time in store communicating with customers and team members to deliver exceptional service.
- Promote a safe work environment.
- Maintain reliable and consistent attendance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or its equivalent required.
- 2–3 years of related retail experience.
- One year of management experience.
- Rotational assignments in other areas of the store such as meat, bakery, produce, and deli; customer service and product flow experience are helpful.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and precisely to team members.
- Demonstrated ability to resolve conflict by addressing root cause issues.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze financial and statistical information and use it to make informed decisions.
- Demonstrated ability to teach suggestive selling.
- Demonstrated ability to lead an organization that practices working safely at all times.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor team members in all areas of the organization, including SDITs, hourly positions, and team leaders.
- Successful completion of all required certifications.
