Deli-Bakery Team Lead

Responsibilities

• Plan, direct, and supervise team members in day‑to‑day operations within various departments of the store.
• Serve as the mentor and coach for all team members.
• Implement strategies to improve customer service, drive store sales, and ensure quick and efficient service.
• Maintain store appearance during prime shopping hours, including product presentation and company standards.
• Provide courteous, friendly, and efficient service to customers and team members.
• Handle staffing, selection, and hiring to meet store staffing needs.
• Promote succession planning and provide career paths for team members.
• Document and apply disciplinary actions and recommend discharges.
• Manage the department’s P&L, achieve sales targets, and maintain shrink.
• Model exceptional, fast, and friendly customer service.
• Communicate the Meijer Friendly Initiative in all team meetings and conversations.
• Mentor and coach team members to exceed customer service and sales goals.
• Ensure the team is thoroughly trained in all aspects of their jobs and completes all required training.
• Spend the majority of time in store communicating with customers and team members to deliver exceptional service.
• Promote a safe work environment.
• Maintain reliable and consistent attendance.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• High school diploma or its equivalent required.
• 2–3 years of related retail experience.
• One year of management experience.
• Rotational assignments in other areas of the store such as meat, bakery, produce, and deli; customer service and product flow experience are helpful.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and precisely to team members.
• Demonstrated ability to resolve conflict by addressing root cause issues.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze financial and statistical information and use it to make informed decisions.
• Demonstrated ability to teach suggestive selling.
• Demonstrated ability to lead an organization that practices working safely at all times.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor team members in all areas of the organization, including SDITs, hourly positions, and team leaders.
• Successful completion of all required certifications.
