Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Low Voltage Estimator to prepare accurate cost estimates and competitive proposals for a variety of low‑voltage systems, including fire alarm, security, access control, video surveillance, structured cabling, and other specialty systems. The Low Voltage Estimator will review project plans and specifications, perform detailed quantity takeoffs, analyze labor and material requirements, solicit vendor and subcontractor pricing, and develop complete bid proposals.
The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of low‑voltage systems, excellent analytical and organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple estimates simultaneously.
- Review project drawings, specifications, bid documents, and scope requirements.
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for low‑voltage systems and associated materials.
- Prepare accurate estimates for labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and other project costs.
- Solicit, review, and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotations.
- Develop complete bid proposals and pricing packages.
- Identify project risks, exclusions, assumptions, and potential value‑engineering opportunities.
- Coordinate with project managers, sales teams, engineers, and field personnel throughout the estimating process.
- Attend pre‑bid meetings, site walks, and customer meetings as needed.
- Maintain estimating databases, labor units, cost data, and pricing information.
- Ensure estimates comply with applicable codes, customer requirements, specifications, and company standards.
- Identify cost‑saving opportunities and recommend value‑engineering solutions.
- Assist with bid preparation and submission, including proposal documentation and written materials.
- Stay current with industry standards, codes, technologies, and best practices related to fire alarm and low‑voltage systems.
- Track bid results and analyze estimate accuracy to improve future estimating performance.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in low‑voltage estimating, project management, design, installation, or a related field.
- Knowledge and experience with low‑voltage systems, including:
- Fire Alarm Systems
- Access Control Systems
- Video Surveillance / CCTV
- Intrusion Detection Systems
- Structured Cabling
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, specifications, and bid documents.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple estimates and deadlines simultaneously.
- Proficiency with estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong mathematical, analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent communication and time‑management skills.
- Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA standards, and applicable local codes.
- NICET certification in Fire Alarm or a related discipline.
- Experience estimating commercial, industrial, healthcare, education, or government projects.
- Experience with Bluebeam, AlarmCAD, or similar estimating and design software.
- Experience with complex low‑voltage system design and installation.
Compensation may be negotiated based on qualifications and experience.
