Salary

Responsible for leading the planning, performance, reporting, and follow‑up of internal audits of Cameron County’s Auditor’s Office. This position is under the direction of the County Auditor. Leads the full audit cycle, risk assessments, and proposes recommendations and audit findings memorandums to improve county operations. Develops audit objectives, scope and work programs.
Conducts follow‑up audits, identifies risk and internal control deficiencies, including potential fraud risks, and coordinates compliance testing of federal and state laws, regulations, contracts, and grant agreements.
Reviews the internal audit team’s work papers, reports and deadlines; supervises internal auditors on multiple and complex audits. Works independently with limited guidance and maintains independence to ensure validity and integrity in internal audit work.

Education and ExperienceMinimum Qualifications
:
Bachelor or Master Degree of Accounting or closely related field AND senior high level auditing/accounting work related experience.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) or Certified Government Auditing Professional (CGAP) and 5 years supervisory experience.

Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or work station.
Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors: Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
Special RequirementsMust have a valid Texas Driver’s License and an acceptable driving record.
Selected applicant must complete a criminal history/background check clearance.
ResponsibilityJob has a critical impact on the County Auditor’s Department operations and public image. Primary responsibility is to the County Auditor. Job responsibilities include constant handling of confidential information/documents relative to the county.
This is not a Civil Service covered position.
