TB CLERK

SALARY: $29,926.00 per year

SECTION I-JOB DESCRIPTION

SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Tuberculosis (TB) Supervisor or designee. The TB Clerk performs routine clerical duties related to the tuberculosis department. Duties may include registering clients, data entry, obtaining general consents, collecting fees from clients, answering telephones.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Employee will accurately document all time worked.
  • Provide administrative and data entry support for TB services in accordance with policies, procedures, and Standing Delegation Orders.
  • Register patients and maintain accurate patient records and demographic information.
  • Open new patient records and maintain required TB documentation.
  • Schedule and reschedule patient appointments as needed.
  • File and maintain PPD cards, X‑ray cards, laboratory results, and other medical records.
  • Prepare and fax requests for medical records, reports, and laboratory information.
  • Complete and enter TB-400 forms and other required TB documentation.
  • Obtain, enter, and maintain laboratory results in patient records.
  • Prepare and mail patient appointment notices and correspondence.
  • Perform and document vision and hearing screenings as required.
  • Review TB encounters and records for completeness and accuracy.
  • Transfer required TB documentation to Case Registry personnel.
  • Order and maintain office and laboratory supplies.
  • Prepare records for TB cases and suspected cases.
  • Ensure accurate labeling, filing, and organization of TB records.
  • Assist with data quality and accuracy for TB reports and program requirements.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with program policies.
  • Other duties as assigned
  • SECTION II-JOB REQUIREMENTS

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    High School graduate or GED Equivalency and six (6) months experience in clerical work involving filing and posting medical information for medical records.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

    Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to effectively deal with the public in a courteous and professional manner. Knowledge of general office duties (filing, posting, telephone etiquette). Knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory tests. Knowledge of computer operation and ability to learn new software programs. Knowledge of spelling, grammar, mathematics, automated equipment and office practices and procedures. Maintain confidentiality of work.

    Ability to communicate with public in a courteous and effective manner. Ability to learn assigned clerical tasks. Ability to work with others as a team member. Ability to understand oral and written instructions. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to evaluate information accurately and objectively.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

    Must have a valid Texas Driver's License, comply with State of Texas driving laws, and maintain an acceptable driving record. Must have reliable transportation. Employees of Cameron County may be required to work during any natural disaster or emergency. Criminal background check is required for employment or continued employment.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    Good health and physical condition sufficient to permit full performance of the duties of the position. If additional assistance is required, employee must request assistance prior to performing the assignment.

    SECTION III-JOB DIMENSIONS CONTACTS:

    EXTERNAL CONTACTS:

    Occasional contact with other health, social and educational care agencies and outside organizations. Frequent contact with DHHS staff and other county departments. Communication is via telephone, written communication and face to face.

    INTERNAL CONTACTS:

    Utilizes tact when dealing with County employees, health, social and educational care providers, and clientele regarding operations issues. Constant contact with Human Resources Office. Communicating is primarily face-to-face, via telephone and through written communication.

    RESPONSIBILITY:

    Comply with Cameron County and Department of State Health Services rules/regulations and display a positive public image. As a Cameron County employee, the identity of every client shall be kept confidential except to the extent necessary to carry out the purpose of an investigation, hearing, or judicial proceeding.

    DIFFICULTY:

    Judgment is required to ensure completion of job activities as assigned by the immediate supervisor or designee. Uses discretion to achieve work goals. Initiative is constantly required to achieve work goals.

    GUIDANCE:

    As assigned by immediate supervisor or designee. It is the responsibility of the employee to know and maintain contact with their immediate supervisor or designee.

    WORKING CONDITION:

    Working conditions are primarily in a clinic, office, community center or field setting.

    This is not a Civil Service covered position.
