ResponsibilitiesPOSITION SUMMARY:
The Loader Operator is responsible for operating front‑end loaders and other heavy equipment used in site development, roadwork, utility installation, and material handling operations. The ideal candidate will have experience operating loaders and be capable of moving materials efficiently while maintaining a strong focus on safety in a fast‑paced outdoor environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate front‑end loaders to move, load, and distribute materials on construction sites
- May operate additional equipment such as:
- Excavators
- Backhoes
- Dozers
- Graders
- Skid steers
- Rollers
- Forklifts or other site‑specific machinery
- Perform tasks including loading trucks, stockpiling materials, back filling, grading, and site cleanup
- Handle materials such as dirt, gravel, aggregates, asphalt, and debris
- Conduct daily equipment inspections and report maintenance or safety issues
- Follow site plans, grade stakes, and/or supervisor instructions to perform work accurately
- Work closely with ground crews, truck drivers, and supervisors to complete jobs accurately and safely
- Maintain awareness of surroundings to avoid damage to utilities, structures, or personnel
- Assist with manual labor and other site tasks when equipment operation is not required
- Comply with all safety regulations, traffic control guidelines, and equipment operating procedures
- Keep equipment clean and perform basic preventative maintenance
- Maintain safety and awareness around moving equipment, traffic, and hot materials
- Clean and maintain tools and equipment at the end of each shift
- Perform other labor‑related tasks as assigned by supervisors
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum OSHA 10 certification required
- 2-5 years of experience operating heavy equipment in civil or road construction, preferred.
- Valid driver's license required; CDL and equipment certifications preferred.
- Ability to read basic site plans and understand construction layouts.
- Knowledge of loader operation, load limits, and safe material handling practices.
- Maintain safe and secure work environment by complying with government standards and legal regulations. Practice good safety habits.
- Knowledge of equipment, materials, methods, and techniques.
- Follow instructions and meet set standards.
- Judge distances and slopes accurately.
- Communicate with supervisors, peers, and/or subordinates.
- Make decisions based on verifiable standards.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
Working Conditions:
Physical Demands- Position requires physically demanding work in field conditions.
- Must be able to stand, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, and crawl for extended periods of time.
- Possess physical strength to operate heavy and power‑driven equipment.
- Coordinate the use of eyes, hands, arms, and legs fully. Work easily and skillfully with hands.
- Vision – ability to see details at close range and details at a distance (either naturally or with correction).
- Lift up to 50 pounds, with frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
