The Department of Civil Engineering at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) invites applications for an Assistant/Associate Professor of Practice (open rank) position, beginning Fall 2026, to support the department's continued growth and increasing student enrollment. The department currently serves over 850 undergraduate and graduate students and includes 18 full-time faculty members dedicated to delivering high-quality education, impactful research, and meaningful student engagement through its ABET-accredited programs.
At present, the department only offers the first two years of lower-division undergraduate courses at the Brownsville campus. These positions are part of a strategic plan to expand to the delivery of the full four-year curriculum at the Brownsville Campus. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to help lead this expansion. They will be responsible for teaching undergraduate courses across multiple civil engineering disciplines at the Brownsville campus.
Additional responsibilities include advising and mentoring students, supporting outreach and recruitment initiatives, and building collaborations with local schools, community colleges, and industry partners. Applicants should possess substantial industry experience, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and a demonstrated commitment to practical, application-oriented teaching. Preferred qualifications include Professional Engineer (PE) or Registered Professional Land Surveyor (RPLS) licensure. The UTRGV Civil Engineering Department is dedicated to delivering a comprehensive and high-quality education that prepares students for leadership roles in the civil engineering field. The department offers a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE) and a Master of Science in Civil Engineering (MSCE), equipping students with the foundational and advanced knowledge necessary to excel in various civil engineering practices.
Accredited by ABET, the programs ensure adherence to the highest standards of engineering education. The curriculum spans multiple civil engineering disciplines, including Structural, Geotechnical, Transportation, Water Resources, and Environmental Engineering. The department has experienced consistent growth in student enrollment, reflecting the rising demand for civil engineers in the Rio Grande Valley and beyond, with over 850 students currently enrolled.
