Dual Credit Adjunct Faculty, Computer-Aided Drafting Position Summary

Adjunct Faculty are professional educators who work on a limited basis and have the primary responsibility of fulfilling Texas Southmost College’s mission, vision, values and goals of providing a quality education for all students. The adjunct faculty member serves as a leader, teacher, advisor, and facilitator of learning and is accountable to the College’s policies and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plan an optimal learning environment; provide high‑quality instruction and advising; develop learning outcomes and assess students, self, and teaching techniques.
  • Manage learning environments by creating accurate syllabi, maintaining attendance records, submitting grades, and providing constructive feedback.
  • Deliver effective instruction, ensuring rigor and quality; design learning activities; use digital learning solutions; communicate expectations regarding technology.
  • Enhance the student learning experience by integrating real‑life situations, encouraging critical thinking, interdisciplinary skills, and teamwork.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to construct and improve measurable learning outcomes including Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board core curriculum objectives.
  • Assess student learning by designing assessments that measure growth and aligning them with learning opportunities.
  • Promote continual improvement by revising curriculum and using defined student learning outcomes to plan and evaluate teaching activities.
  • Support institutional effectiveness by completing mandatory performance evaluations, sharing best practices, and striving toward improved educational effectiveness.
  • Support student learning by creating a positive classroom atmosphere, providing support services, and available during designated work periods.
  • Pursue professional development and maintain required credentials and continuing education hours.
  • Participate collegially in discipline‑specific activities and attend the workplace regularly, reporting to work punctually.
  • Use interpersonal skills and sound judgment to decide how duties are completed.
  • Support the values and institutional goals defined in the College’s Strategic Plan.
  • Complete duties in compliance with college standards, policies, and guidelines.
  • Attend required training and professional development sessions sponsored by Texas Southmost College.
  • Working hours may include evenings, holidays or weekends depending on deadline requirements and special events.
Required Knowledge and Skills
  • Strong commitment to the mission of the community college and to quality teaching, student success, and completion.
  • Knowledge of academic and instructional functions of the College.
  • Knowledge of curriculum development, assessment, and revision.
  • Knowledge of student learning outcomes and assessment strategies.
  • Knowledge of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
  • Excellent teaching, communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment with a customer service focus.
  • Ability to use technology in the teaching and learning process.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, staff, and the public.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written; ability to define problems, collect data, and present information.
  • High energy, good sense of humor, and capacity for demanding time and effort requirements.
Required

Education and Experience
  • Associate’s degree or higher in Drafting Technology or Computer‑Aided Design and Drafting in the Structural, Civil, Architectural, or Piping fields; or Bachelor’s degree or higher in Architecture, Structural/Civil Engineering, or Engineering Technology from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of non‑teaching work experience in the field.
  • Certification: AUTODESK Certified User.
Preferred

Education and Experience
  • Teaching experience in a comprehensive community college setting or at the undergraduate level.
Physical Demands and Work Environment

Employees are frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach with arms, lift and move up to 10 pounds frequently and up to 25 pounds occasionally. The work may involve exposure to moving mechanical parts and moderate noise levels. Reasonable accommodations are available to individuals with disabilities.
