REQUIRED:
Must have a High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) required in English (can submit a High School Transcript) and MEET ONE of the following Options
:
- Forty-eight (48) university, college and/or vocational level hours with core subjects from an accredited institution of higher education and/or
- Associate’s (or higher) Official Transcript/Diploma (required in English)
- Student Academic Record/View NOT VALID Must be an Official Transcript
- Have experience working with students or parents as approved by the employing superintendent. Experience may be work in church-related schools, day camps, youth groups, private schools, licensed daycare centers, or similar experience
A Current Full-Time Brownsville ISD employee with a Valid Educational Aide Certification and High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) required in English and have met a rigorous standard quality and can demonstrate, through a formal state or local assessment knowledge and ability to assist in instruction (TOPS training).
Duties and Responsibilities- Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administration regulations, and state and local board policy and Bilingual/ESL grant requirements.
- Tests LEP students and assists counselors with materials pertaining to Bilingual/ESL program as time allows.
- Follows prescribed procedures in interpreting student ORAL language proficiency test (OLPT) data, and is efficient in processing Bilingual/ESL student records.
- Performs data entry and verification for Bilingual/ESL students.
- Assists classroom Bilingual/ESL teachers in their instructional activities including the use of resource material while considering factors such as individual needs, abilities, learning levels, and physical limitations of students.
- Helps Bilingual/ESL teachers prepare and submit weekly lesson plans and have instructional materials ready for class use.
- Reads to Bilingual/ESL students, listens to students read, and participates in other forms or oral communication with students.
- Organizes and prepares Bilingual/ESL student forms and records to forward to campuses in timely manner.
- Recognizes errors or deficiencies in source documents and takes steps to have them corrected.
- Checks students' special program folders to verify LPAC documentation and placement.
- Enters students' Bilingual/ESL program testing and placement information in an accurate and efficient manner.
- Creates an effective environment for learning for the Bilingual/ESL students; uses timely, functional and attractive displays; displays students' current work and skills which contribute to the present learning objectives set by the teacher; ESL and maintains a clean, orderly study area.
- Arranges and adjusts tools, work aids, and equipment used by Bilingual/ESL students in the classroom such as specially equipped worktables, computers, typewriters, and mechanized page turners.
- Assists Bilingual/ESL with the presentation of subject matter to students using a variety of methods and techniques, special teaching tools and equipment.
- Assists Bilingual/ESL students, individually or in groups, with instructional assignments to reinforce learning concepts.
- Assists the Bilingual/ESL teacher in keeping administrative records and preparing required reports.
- Assists in supervising Bilingual/ESL students inside the classroom for instruction and transfer at the ESL/Bilingual students from class to class.
- Provides orientation and assistance to substitute teacher for Bilingual/ESL teacher.
- Keeps the Bilingual/ESL teacher informed of any special needs or problems of individual students.
- Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties.
- Maintains confidentiality.
- Maintains a high level of ethical behavior as is expected of all District employees.
- Maintains professional growth by attending Bilingual/ESL, in-service and meeting as requested/required.
- Performs any other Bilingual/ESL duties as assigned by Teacher/Principal.
