Scope of Job
To assist in the operation of a program or multiple projects, exercising independent judgment and authority as required dedicated to working with High School students in collaboration with the Office of Community Engagement, Office of Engaged Scholarship & Learning, and several UTRGV faculty in identifying research opportunities, local scholarship opportunities, and community partnerships.
Description of Duties
- Responsible for coordinating and supporting student Clubs and Organizations ( NHS and Student Council) and assisting with events which include, but are not limited to Information Sessions, New Student Immersion, Summer Bridge, Orientations, Graduation, monthly student seminars/workshops, campus instructional activities, student socio/emotional activities, student wellness activities.
- Coordinates program to ensure that implementation and prescribed activities are carried out in accordance with specified objectives.
- Supervises and manages the day-to-day activities and personnel of the assigned program.
- Develops and supervises the implementation of multiple projects or programs.
- Participates in budget planning and is responsible for controlling expenditures in accordance with budget allocations for the program.
- Identifies and connects students with suitable research opportunities across various university departments and coordinates with university faculty to create research internships and projects tailored to the student’s interests and strengths.
- Provides mentorship and guidance to students in navigating research programs, including application processes, project selection, and presentation of their research findings.
- Identifies local businesses, non-profits, and community organizations who offer volunteer opportunities to support MSA high-school community service efforts.
- Organizes community service events and projects, fostering a culture of volunteerism and community involvement among students.
- Provides students with information on available community service opportunities and assists them in finding suitable placements.
- Sponsors, oversees, and meets with students for Clubs and Organizations of the Math and Science Academy ( MSA ) (ex. Student Council and National Honor Society).
- Manages and monitors the MSA’s social media pages.
- Assists others in writing and developing proposals for funding grants.
- Coordinates long and short-term programs, including performing feasibility studies and estimating the cost of the program.
- Represents department in official functions.
- Reviews program records and reports of activities and recommends modifications to methods or procedures as required.
