About The DivisionJoin the Enforcement division as a Taxpayer Enforcement Officer! This role involves enforcement, compliance, and interpretation of the Texas Tax Code, collecting direct and indirect taxes and fees. The position requires a high degree of confidentiality.
Work:
Monday through Friday, 40 hours/week with occasional evening, weekend, and holiday work. A flexible hybrid schedule may be available.

QualificationsMinimum Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited high school or GED.
- 2 years full‑time work experience in a related field such as accounting, bookkeeping, a call center, clerical/administrative, collections, or record keeping.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Complete copies of college transcripts must be furnished to the divisional hiring representative at the time of the interview for positions requiring a college degree, and/or specific educational credits.
- 2 years’ experience in bookkeeping, a call center, or collections.
- Thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of the administrative support or clerical work experience requirement on a year‑for‑year basis, with a maximum substitution of two years.
- A valid Texas (or state of residency) driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record. Applicants offered an interview must present a state‑issued driving record, current driver’s license, and proof of automobile insurance at or before the interview.
- Perform professional tax enforcement work, enforcing and promoting compliance of Title 2 of the Texas Tax Code and related statutes.
- Work with the general public, taxpayers, taxpayer representatives, and state and local authorities.
- Provide education on tax laws, rules, publications, and forms.
- Conduct individualized tax analysis to determine the next action.
- Establish liability using original or estimated data on delinquent taxes.
- Utilize all collection remedies under Title 2 of the Texas Tax Code and related statutes.
- Document accurate records of communication and actions with taxpayers or representatives.
- Update division and agency databases to reflect collections work and account statuses.
- Perform collection and compliance work in person, by phone, and/or written correspondence.
- Collect cash and non‑cash payments from taxpayers.
- May conduct inspections, assist with seizures, and work with other state agencies or law enforcement.
- Attend mandatory training, both on‑the‑job and in class settings.
- May conduct tax seminars or other related topics for the public and business groups, and represent the Comptroller’s office at conferences and fairs.
- May present testimony and evidence in administrative hearings or court proceedings.
- May participate in special projects and perform other work‑related duties as assigned.
