Provides direct supervision of production work as directed by Plant Manager. Supervises and coaches the operators on proper manufacturing procedures and standards such as quality, productivity, waste, SPC, safety and machine guarding. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Oversees, enforces and applies all company policies including but not limited to EHS, ISO, WCM, Principles of Action & Conduct and Code of Ethics.
- Reports any abnormal conditions and escalates any safety, quality, and productivity concerns to the appropriate department manager.
- As Production supervisor, individual should participate actively on company sponsor activities for EHS, QA and Production. And encourage participation from all his/her direct reports.
- The Production supervisor encourages and guides direct reports in the attainment of plant goals & objectives, and strategic initiatives.
- Completes employee safety incident reports as necessary.
- Assists the operators in reporting waste and production on the work order and finishing data collection. Analyzes data and interprets press downtime.
- Responsible for the health and safety of all direct reports and held accountable. This includes, among other things, overseeing the different work areas and ensuring that immediate corrective actions are taken in case of discrepancies, and observing and changing employee attitudes toward safety.
- Comply with ISO Quality Policies as it pertains to the company and job.
- Responsible for distributing personnel in different work areas based on company needs based on workload provided by plant management.
- Oversees machine set up, first piece inspection, hour by hour reporting and escalation of major problems to management, and assists maintenance when repairs are necessary. Assists employees in maximizing press efficiencies while performing minor maintenance and tooling functions.
- Supervises/coaches designated area in achieving the successful production goals in accordance with safety, quality and delivery requirements.
- Assures operators perform per SPC instructions, plots according to time schedule and assures the process is following statistical guidelines. Performs random inspections to ensure acceptable quality. Conducts hourly checks of production operators in the department, determining their progress status and assisting them as needed. Checks the operator's productivity standards and load factors.
- Assists/oversees training and re-training in the manufacturing departments when needed for employees or trainers to include use and set-up of production machines. Assigns qualified trainers to new operators or retrains them as required.
- Keeps track of production output by station throughout the shift in the assigned areas by frequently monitoring the assigned workstations.
- Able to work overtime as required and be flexible with assigned or rotating shifts (1st, 2nd, 3rd) and hours (8, 10, 12 hrs.) when needed. Back's up at other supervisors/leads/forklift drivers as assigned by Plant manager.
- Maintain the warehouse for unfinished and packing areas. Works with purchasing, kit pullers and makes cycle counts and participates in inventories. Orders and maintains adequate supplies, to successfully supply support groups, keeps the department running productively.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Bilingual English and Spanish.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
