Opportunity
Responsible for the evaluation of donor suitability for automated pheresis procedures, administration and supervision of approved immunizations other than red blood cell immunizations, and providing limited emergency medical care to donors and staff including medication or treatment administration as per licensure or certification.
The Role- Promotes positive customer relations with all donors.
- Conducts confidential and effective interviews with donors to obtain necessary information regarding suitability to donate plasma.
- Responds to medically related questions from staff in conjunction with the Center Medical Director or Physician, providing information on donor suitability.
- Performs medical history reviews and health assessments on donors, assesses results of donor screening and laboratory tests to determine initial and ongoing donor suitability.
- Notifies and counsels donors regarding reactive test results, refers donors to community facilities for follow‑up.
- Explains informed consent to applicant donors, covering procedures, hazards, potential adverse events, immunization schedules, dose and antibody response, and obtains signature and date.
- Handles medical emergencies at the Center per SOPs; escalates to Center Physician or local medical service providers as needed; checks emergency kits periodically.
- Reviews test results and determines continued donor suitability, follows SOPs for acceptable ranges of four‑month required test (PE/STS) reports, maintains knowledge of four‑month approvals and grace periods.
- Assesses signs and symptoms that may result in the inability to continue donating.
- Understands hyper‑immune program policies and procedures; oversees donor immunization programs, reviews antibody titer results, and maintains awareness of appropriate immunization schedule for each antigen.
- Ensures accurate recording of donor data in the electronic donor information management system per SOPs.
- Maintains a clean, efficient work environment and ensures operating supplies and forms are available; follows HSE and OSHA policies and procedures; promotes safety; may conduct routine audits of internal procedures and documentation.
- Maintains confidentiality of all personnel, donor, and center information.
- May be cross‑trained in other areas to meet business needs.
- May require bilingual skills, at discretion of organization, to meet business needs.
- Performs other job‑related duties as assigned.
- Graduation from a paramedic, nursing, physician assistant, chiropractic, medical school, or naturopathic medical training program with an active state license.
- Or state certification as an Advanced‑EMT (AEMT).
- If graduation is from a foreign allopathic or osteopathic medical school, must also be licensed as a physician.
- Minimum of one (1) year experience in a healthcare environment.
- Experience in a plasma or whole blood collection center or other regulated environment preferred.
- Skill in performing and analyzing physical assessments of heart, lung sounds, drug‑use signs, etc.
- Ability to instruct donors, staff, and community on the benefits of plasma donation programs.
- Ability to make decisions with moderate impact on immediate work unit.
- Ability to understand, remember, and apply oral and written instructions.
- Ability to see and speak with customers and observe equipment operation.
- Occasional tasks while standing and walking up to 100% of time.
- Examining and assessing skin and other abnormalities through sight, touch, and smell.
- Reach, bend, kneel, and high manual dexterity.
- Occasional lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds.
- Fast‑paced environment with frequent interruptions.
- Frequent exposure to hazardous chemicals, extreme temperatures, and blood‑borne pathogens.
- Required to wear PPE while performing specific tasks or in certain areas.
- Required to work overtime and extended hours to support center operational needs.
