Scope of Job
Trainee position to pursue research as a vital component of their educational mission and professional career development. Works under minimal supervision with some latitude in the use of initiative and independent judgment in research. Performs research work as required within the project assigned.
Performs teaching and/or research work as required within the classroom and/or project assigned.
Description of Duties
The following is a listing of typical duties that may be applicable to the position:
Developing, testing, and analyzing research projects based on application expertise and interest;
Generation and analysis of mass spectrometry based exposomics data;
Analysis of multiomics data;
Analysis of MRI
-derived imaging data;
Provides guidance and support to PhD students with their dissertation projects as needed;
Writing narrative summaries of the research results, and related tasks under the supervision of the faculty member assigned;
Conducting background research;
Developing and implementing an evaluation plan and preparing progress reports as needed;
Studying, testing, and maintaining accurate data identified as relevant and/or best practice systems from research results obtained through national studies;
Publishing in peer-reviewed publications related to the focus of the research activities assigned;
Presenting research findings at relevant symposium and research conferences; and performing other job-related duties as assigned.

Required Education
Doctoral degree in Human Genetics or related field from an accredited University.

Equipment
Use of personal computer and proficiency in software and research statistical applications.
Working Conditions
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office/research environment; some travel and weekend work is required. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which requires presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.
