Position: UTILITY TECHNICIAN (DOQ)

Salary $18.55 - $28.85 Hourly (Depending on Qualifications)

Job Summary

Under general supervision, performs manual labor and skilled work in the construction of water and wastewater systems.

Responsibilities Utility Technician

Operates equipment (light trucks or other mechanized equipment) in the construction of water and wastewater systems.
Works building forms, pouring, and finishing concrete and laying utility pipes (various types and sizes).
Repairs broken pipes (various types and sizes), opens clogged sewer lines, and cleans sanitary sewer manholes.
Assists in back filling construction ditches and loading materials onto trucks.
Assists in placing concrete and fiberglass sanitary sewer manholes.
Makes repairs on water and wastewater lines and services.
Assists with survey transit level and elevation rod.
Works shift schedule and on-call and call-out duty as needed (including nights, weekends, and holidays).
Completes other job duties as assigned.

Senior Utility Technician

Assists Lead Utility Technician in the limited supervision of subordinates and/or assigned work groups.
May provide functional guidance and leadership to others by assigning work, monitoring, and instructing employees and providing input to the Lead Utility Technician regarding subordinates’ performance.
May be responsible for the daily activities and responsibilities of a work group in the absence of a Lead Utility Technician.
Oper heavy construction and maintenance equipment (backhoe, boring machine, excavator, bulldozer, skid steer) in the construction of water/wastewater systems, lift stations, water line repairs, emergency sewer cave-in repairs, resaca maintenance operations and sludge site maintenance.
Works building forms, pouring, and finishing concrete and laying utility pipes (various types and sizes).
Repairs broken pipes (various types and sizes), opens clogged sewer lines, and cleans sanitary sewer manholes.
Responsible for back filling construction ditches and loading materials onto trucks.
Responsible for placing concrete and fiberglass sanitary sewer manholes.
Makes repairs on water and wastewater lines and services.

Lead Utility Technician

Responsible for limited supervision of subordinates and/or assigned work groups.
Provides functional guidance and leadership to others by assigning work, monitoring, and instructing employees and providing input to supervisor regarding employee’s performance.
Plans, directs, administers, and supervises activities in the operations of water/wastewater maintenance.
Prepares and maintains a variety of reports, including progress reports and detailed information of work being performed in the field.
Maintains truck and tool inventory for assigned area(s).
Completes inspections, maintenance, repairs, and service to assigned equipment.
Removes and installs new drain pipes on concrete or drying ponds.
Operates survey transit level and elevation rod.
May operate heavy construction equipment (i.e. backhoe, boring machine, excavator, bulldozer, skid steer, dump trucks, front loader, or other machinery).
May be required to work other than the regular daytime schedule due to the nature of the work.
Certain assignments may be required to work shift schedule and on-call and call-out duty as needed (including nights, weekends, and holidays).
Completes other job duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Utility Technician

Knowledge of the maintenance, installation, and repair of all water and wastewater accessories.
Knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to water/wastewater accessories and repair work.
Skill in operating power tools and heavy equipment such as backhoes, dump trucks, and other public utilities water system vehicles.
Communications skills (both oral and written) required in English, Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
Computer skills using Microsoft Office programs.
