Employment Expectations

Job Summary

This posting establishes an ongoing pool of candidates for adjunct instructor positions in the School of Business, with primary teaching needs in Finance. Applicants will teach assigned accounting courses and support the school’s commitment to preparing career‑ready, faith‑formed business graduates who are grounded ethically, professionally, and connected to employer and community needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teach one or more subjects within the Department for the course(s) which you have been appointed to teach for the particular academic semester/term.
  • Prepare and deliver instruction to students via mode as discussed with supervisor (online, hybrid, and/or face‑to‑face).
  • Meet classes as scheduled.
  • Compile, administer, and grade examinations and other student learning assignments.
  • Report student attendance electronically, via Brightspace or Gateway.
  • Assess and report student achievement validly and reliably.
  • Communicate with students consistently and in a timely manner.
  • Connect finance course content to professional practice, ethical decision‑making, career readiness, and business applications relevant to students’ future work and service.

  • Use of Technology – Effectively uses current technology in teaching and is an advocate for the use of technology by peers and students to enhance learning.
  • Qualifications

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each Essential Duty and Responsibility listed above satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.     • A master’s degree in finance or a closely related field, or at least 18 graduate‑level hours in finance, is required. A Ph.D., DBA, CFA, CFP, CPA, or other relevant professional certification is preferred.
    • Prior university teaching experience is preferred.
    • Professional experience in banking, investments, financial planning, corporate finance, insurance, real estate, or related financial services areas is also preferred.
    Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Physical Demands – The employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Work Environment – The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals used to clean and/or renovate buildings and maintain the grounds of the University. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Employment Terms

    Adjunct faculty employment is a temporary appointment for a single semester to teach specific courses and is compensated on a course‑by‑course basis. Neither the adjunct faculty member nor Howard Payne University are obligated once the semester of appointment is completed. Future appointments may be made when the adjunct faculty member and HPU agree to a new appointment for a future semester.
