Job DescriptionThe PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER works under the general supervision of a Project Manager. The Professional Engineer assists in planning, designing, and directing civil engineering projects by performing the following duties:
- Prepares and monitors project budgets for smaller, less complex projects.
- Responsible for project schedules and timely completion of smaller, less complex projects.
- Serves as a project manager or project engineer and as a designated client contact.
- Assists in the coordination of pricing, estimating, scoping and marketing strategies for proposed projects.
- Prepares design computations and quantity estimates.
- Develops construction cost estimates for his/her projects within the department.
- Analyzes reports, maps, drawings, and blueprints, tests to plan and design projects.
- Prepares or modifies reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, environmental impact studies and designs for projects.
- Instructs technicians to reduce designs to working drawings.
- Visits construction site to monitor progress and other duties per the contract documents.
- Serves as on-site project representative.
EDUCATION AND/OR WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited college or university is preferred
- GA PE registration is required; registration in additional states preferred.
- Minimum of 8 years relevant work experience, 10 years work experience preferred.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.
- Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate in English with internal and external clients
- Able to read and interpret plans and specifications
- Able to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers and clients
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables
- Able to make engineering design computations and check, design, and prepare engineering plans and studies
- Able to perform mathematical computations as applied to engineering problems
- Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Knowledge of surveying
- Knowledge of the methods and equipment used in construction
- Ability to perform designing and drafting assignments
- Ability to interpret specification and contract essentials
- Valid driver’s license required - Must be insurable by fleet insurer; driving history will be reviewed by agent and underwriter
- Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
- Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices
