Position Summary

This position is responsible for providing technical safety, health, and environmental compliance support to the Mill. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to: developing safety and health programs and objectives, developing and coordinating safety training programs, monitoring safety and health regulations, monitoring permit requirements and preparing necessary compliance reports (or overseeing report preparation and submission), and providing technical support to plant personnel to ensure compliance with Federal and State safety, health, and environmental regulations.

Job Functions
  • Provide technical safety, health, and environmental compliance support to Mill personnel.
  • Prepare written safety and health programs and policies.
  • Identify Mill safety training needs and develop and coordinate safety training programs.
  • Participate in process reviews (e.g., hazard analyses, Operator Training, ZES/Lockout, New Hire Orientation, etc.).
  • Participate in development, implementation, and support of Mill policies.
  • Identify opportunities and support implementation of engineering controls to minimize and eliminate safety, health, and environmental hazards.
  • Evaluate Safety Systems (critiques, follows up, ensures changes to equipment/process are reflected in safety systems) perpetually to ensure systems remain current and thorough.
  • Support plant leadership (Supervisors, Superintendents) by providing feedback for improvement in documentation, closing the loop with employees, and serving as a training resource.
  • Confirm that systems and policies are in place, adhered to, and functioning properly through records review and physical observation on the ground throughout the plant.
  • Conduct general EHS observations, including guarding audits, basic at‑risk observations focusing on Lockout, Safe Work Practices, Employee Hazard Recognition; provide feedback to area leadership.
  • Perform basic electrical safety inspections and audits of existing safety inspections such as monthly/quarterly ladder, hand tool, extension cords, etc.
  • Manage safety and environmental record‑keeping and reporting (both regulated – state and federal, and internal). Continually evolve and improve internal record‑keeping and reporting to support the Mill’s needs and drive improved results.
  • Build, develop, and continually improve Mill Safety Systems.
  • Lead by example, with integrity, holding self and all employees accountable for working safely, ensuring consistency in actions and results, and continually driving for results.
Additional Functions and Responsibilities
  • Solicit input from all personnel for continual improvement of mill results.
  • Educate personnel to help them grow in their roles, understand the part they play in the business, and increase their general knowledge of the business to generate better results.
  • Execute on and uphold Company policies and ensure consistency in application of the same.
Position Qualifications
  • Minimum Qualifications: High School diploma or GED and at least 5 years of experience, preferably in a wood products manufacturing environment. An associate’s or BS degree in industrial safety and compliance, environmental compliance, or similar is desired. An equivalent combination of education, certifications, and experience will also be considered.
  • Additional Qualifications: Familiarity with Federal (OSHA, EPA, etc.) record‑keeping and reporting requirements; familiarity with State of Georgia (Workers Compensation, EPD, DNR, etc.) record‑keeping and reporting requirements; excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to develop people; competency with using a computer and typical office software (Word, Excel, etc.); servant leadership, customer‑focused, results‑driven, with continuous improvement mentality; continuous personal knowledge and leadership capability improvement;

    ability to plan, solve problems, and make good decisions; leadership courage to drive change.
