Georgia-Pacific is seeking a Process Safety Leader to support our Brunswick Cellulose facility in Brunswick, Georgia.

The Process Safety Leader serves as the site's primary process safety resource and is responsible for the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of process safety management systems. This role provides technical direction and influential leadership across operations, maintenance, engineering, reliability, projects, and safety organizations to identify, evaluate, and mitigate process safety risks.

The successful candidate will partner with site and corporate leadership to strengthen process safety culture, ensure compliance with applicable standards and regulations, and support safe, reliable, and efficient operations through effective risk management and continuous improvement. This position leads through influence rather than direct supervision and plays a critical role in advancing Georgia-Pacific's commitment to operational excellence and Principle Based Management (PBM)

The Process Safety Leader will work closely with facility leadership and operating teams to ensure process safety is integrated into daily decision-making and long-term business strategy

What You Will Do

  • Provide process safety leadership for the site with a focus on reducing risk, improving system effectiveness, and ensuring compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Serve as the site owner and coordinator for Process Safety Management (PSM) systems and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Foster process safety ownership throughout the organization through coaching, collaboration, and leadership consistent with risk-based process safety principles and PBM.
  • Lead and facilitate Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), revalidations and other risk assessment activities.
  • Lead the development and execution of site risk reduction strategies and improvement plans for process safety performance.
  • Provide technical leadership for Management of Change (MOC) and Pre-Startup Safety Review (PSSR) processes.
  • Coordinate and support compliance audits, self-assessments, action item management, and corrective action closure verification activities.
  • Lead or support investigations of process safety incidents and near misses to identify root causes and implement sustainable corrective actions.
  • Support capital projects through design reviews, PtD reviews, hazard assessments, startup readiness reviews, and safeguard validation activities.
  • Partner with corporate process safety resources to implement standards, tools, and best practices.
  • Monitor and communicate process safety metrics, compliance performance, and risk reduction opportunities to facility leadership.
  • Mentor and develop process safety competency across all levels of the organization to strengthen operational discipline and risk awareness.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering, Safety, Operations, or a related technical discipline or equivalent work experience.
  • Five (5) or more years of experience in process safety, process engineering, manufacturing operations, reliability, mechanical integrity, or related technical roles within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience supporting or leading Process Safety Management (PSM) systems and programs.
  • Experience and working knowledge of OSHA Process Safety Management (29 CFR ) and EPA Risk Management Program (40 CFR 68) requirements.
  • Experience facilitating or participating in Process Hazard Analyses (PHA), Management of Change (MOC), and incident investigations.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence, coach, and lead cross-functional teams without direct authority.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization.

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Eight (8) or more years of experience supporting high-hazard manufacturing operations.
  • Experience in the pulp and paper, chemical, petrochemical, refining, or other PSM-regulated industries.
  • Experience leading Process Hazard Analyses, Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA), or other formal risk assessments.
  • Experience supporting Mechanical Integrity programs and critical safeguard management systems.
  • Experience leading compliance audits, management system assessments, and risk reduction initiatives.
  • Demonstrated success improving organizational process safety culture and performance through.
