As a Foreman, you will be at the center of a fast-moving port and logistics operation, driving the performance and reliability of the equipment and infrastructure that keep business moving. From leading preventive maintenance initiatives to responding to operational demands in real time, you’ll champion safety, efficiency, and innovation while helping maximize uptime and power the success of terminal operations every day.
ResponsibilitiesWhat your day looks like as a Foreman:
- Supervise, assign, and coordinate daily tasks for maintenance technicians and mechanics
- Provide hands-on leadership, coaching, and technical guidance to the team
- Ensure shift coverage and prioritize urgent breakdowns or operational needs
- Conduct daily toolbox talks and reinforce safety expectations
- Oversee preventive and corrective maintenance on heavy equipment (forklifts, reach stackers, loaders, excavators, hoppers, crane buckets and hoppers)
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues
- Ensure timely repair of equipment to minimize operational downtime
- Review work orders and ensure accurate completion and documentation
- Enforce strict adherence to all safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements
- Conduct inspections to ensure equipment meets safety and operational standards
- Participate in incident reporting, investigations, and corrective actions
- Promote a strong safety-first culture across the maintenance team
- Coordinate with operations to schedule maintenance with minimal disruption
- Assist in planning preventative maintenance programs and equipment servicing schedules
- Communicate equipment status and repair timelines to management
- Monitor parts, tools, and supply usage
Coordinate with procurement for ordering replacement parts and materials - Ensure proper use and care of maintenance tools and equipment
To succeed as a Foreman you must have:
- 2-3 years of experience in industrial or heavy equipment maintenance (port, marine, warehousing, or logistics environment preferred)
- 2+ years in a supervisory or lead hand role
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems
- Experience with forklifts, cranes, or terminal handling equipment considered a strong asset
- Ability to read technical manuals, schematics, and maintenance documentation
- Familiarity with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) is an asset
- Must be able to lift up to 50lbs
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving ability
- High attention to safety and detail
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work under pressure in a 24/7 operational environment
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is an asset depending on location
- Industrial outdoor/port environment
- Shift work, including evenings, nights, weekends, and on-call rotation
- Exposure to heavy equipment, noise, and varying weather conditions
