Job Summary

The painter is responsible for maintaining and improving the appearance, safety, and condition of the college building and facilities through painting, finishing, and surface preparation work. This position performs interior and exterior painting of academic buildings, student housing, and other campus properties. This position is designated by the institution as Essential Personnel and may be required to report to work during emergencies, campus closures, or other situations as determined by the College.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and paint interior and exterior surfaces of campus buildings, including classrooms, offices, student housing and common areas.
  • Perform surface preparation work such as sanding, scraping, patching, caulking, and priming to ensure quality work.
  • Repair damaged drywall, plaster, and other wall surfaces prior to painting.
  • Maintain the appearance and preservation of the campus facilities through scheduled painting and touch up projects.
  • Apply paints, stains, varnishes, sealants, and protective coating using brushes, rollers and spray equipment.
  • Estimate materials needed for projects and assist with ordering, receiving and inventory of painting supplies.
  • Operate and maintain painting tools, equipment, lifts, and scaffolding.
  • Respond to work orders and complete painting projects in a timely and professional manner.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications Educational Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Required Qualifications
  • Must possess a current valid drivers license with acceptable driving record and pass a yearly Motor Vehicle Report review.
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug test and will be subject to random drug testing.
Required Experience
  • Five years of professional painting, finishing, or closely related facilities maintenance experience.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Abilities
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, climb ladders, perform tasks at varying heights, ability to, lift, carry, and move materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of painting techniques, drywall repair, safety regulations, building maintenance practices, handling and disposal of paint.
Skills
  • Skilled in preparing surfaces, applying paint, stains, and varnishes.
