The Special Collections & Archives Departmental Assistant provides support for the reading room, including welcoming and signing in patrons, communicating departmental rules and procedures for handling collection material, and monitoring use of collections; pulling and refiling materials as needed; assisting in the accessioning and processing of rare books and other departmental holdings; and providing general administrative support for the Department of Special Collections & Archives.

This is a casual, part-time, non-benefit eligible position working less than 19 hours per week.
A Bachelor of Arts degree is required. Applicants must possess demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills, with evidence of ability to attend to accuracy, attention to detail and discretion, and the need for confidentiality; excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment; excellent organizational skills; and strong word processing and spreadsheet skills. Knowledge of or experience with library systems, particularly integrated library systems catalogs, is strongly preferred.
- 1-3 years experience in a related field/position.
- Knowledge of or experience with archival and/or library collections management systems.
- General familiarity with libraries or archives.
- Experience managing office operations or performing administrative support functions.
Standard Work Days and Hours
- This is a casual, part-time, non-benefit eligible position working less than 19 hours per week.
- Standard administrative hours are 8:30am – 5:00pm.
