Outing Club Equipment Room Operations Supervisor
The Bowdoin Outing Club (BOC) Equipment Room outfits over 150 student and staff led outdoor trips annually and offers equipment loans during the academic year for members of the Bowdoin community. The Bowdoin Outing Club Equipment Room Supervisor supports the BOC Director, Associate Director, and Assistant Director in the oversight of the Equipment Room. Specifically, this position directly oversees student employees during their gear room shift, providing the vision for daily workflow, task delegation, and instruction in gear repair.
Additionally, this position works closely with the BOC Director to monitor equipment inventory, track equipment use and order replacements based on lifecycle, use, and anticipated program changes. This position will oversee the outfitting and de-issue process for weekly trips, Orientation Trips and complete other projects as assigned related to improving gear room operations. Lastly, the supervisor will be instrumental in prepping equipment for the upcoming season as well as repairing gear to return it to circulation when appropriate.
COMPENSATION:
The hourly range for this position is expected to be: $21.00/per hour. This is a casual, part-time, non-benefit eligible position working less than 19 hours/week for the academic year.
Education/Skills Requirements
- Associates or vocational/technical school degree is required.
Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents
- Experience with in a similar role for 1-3 years required. Must be eligible to become van certified wledge of outdoor apparel and equipment maintenance and repair for a variety of outdoor activities; strong organizational skills; demonstrated supervisory experience; ability to direct gear room staff, create a welcoming atmosphere at the BOC Gear Room for new participants and members of the Bowdoin community;
ability to explain proper use and function of outdoor equipment to community members; able to instruct students in gear repair; capable of self-directed learning to complete new gear repairs; ability to develop and maintain a gear inventory system; able to develop a strong work ethic in gear room staff; able to develop a vision to anticipate BOC gear room needs (ie.
Prepping for fall break trips or season change over) and direct gear room staff appropriately to accomplish tasks in a timely fashion. Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications in this posting to be considered for hire.
