Job Summary

The Chemistry Department seeks an enthusiastic, self‑motivated individual to collaborate with supervising faculty to teach laboratory sections in introductory and organic chemistry courses.

Responsibilities
  • Experimental design
  • Laboratory preparation: creation of handouts, assembly of chemicals, maintenance of equipment and instrumentation, and proper disposal of laboratory waste
  • Presentation of pre‑lab lectures
  • Supervision of laboratory sections
  • Scaffolding exploratory student mini‑projects
  • Supervision of student assistants
  • Guidance on data analysis and scientific writing
  • Grading of pre‑lab assignments and laboratory reports
  • Full‑time academic year position with a two‑year appointment
Hiring Range

$60,000–$65,000.

Education and Skills Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or biochemistry required.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and problem‑solving abilities
  • Ability to provide individual and group instruction with sensitivity to different learning styles
  • Successful candidate will integrate into a cohort of Lab Instructors in Chemistry and Biochemistry
Experience Requirements

1–3 years of experience teaching labs using laboratory equipment and techniques.

Standard Work Days and Hours
  • Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
  • Some weekends or evening hours may be required
  • Exempt position requiring the time commitment necessary to complete job requirements
  • Full time during the academic year (0.81 FTE, 40 hrs/42 weeks)

  • The position is a two‑year appointment
