Visiting Laboratory Instructor - Chemistry Job Summary
The Chemistry Department seeks an enthusiastic, self‑motivated individual to work closely with supervising faculty to teach laboratory sections in introductory and organic chemistry courses. The role involves experimental design, laboratory preparation, and student instruction throughout the academic year.
Responsibilities- Design experiments and prepare laboratory handouts.
- Assemble chemicals, maintain equipment and instrumentation, and manage laboratory waste.
- Deliver pre‑lab lectures and supervise laboratory sections.
- Scaffold exploratory student mini‑projects and supervise student assistants.
- Guide students in data analysis and scientific writing.
- Grade pre‑lab assignments and laboratory reports.
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or biochemistry.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and problem‑solving abilities.
- Capable of providing individual and group instruction, adapting to diverse learning styles.
- Ability to integrate into a cohort of laboratory instructors in Chemistry and Biochemistry.
1–3 years of experience teaching laboratory courses using laboratory equipment and techniques.
Standard Work Days and Hours- Monday – Friday 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
- Some weekends or evening hours may be required.
- Full‑time academic year position (0.81 FTE, 40 hrs/42 weeks).
- Two‑year appointment.
