Description
The Machinist plays a key role in producing high-quality components that support the manufacturing of STARC Systems’ award-winning modular wall systems. Working with both CNC and manual machining equipment, the Machinist brings precision, problem-solving, and craftsmanship to every part produced.
This role collaborates closely with engineering, production, and quality teams and contributes to a culture of continuous improvement on the shop floor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES MACHINING SETUP & OPERATION:- Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, GD&T specifications, and job orders to understand and execute machining requirements.
- Set up and operate CNC mills, lathes, and manual machines to produce precision parts that support STARC’s production needs.
- Select proper tooling, fixtures, speeds, and feeds to achieve consistent, accurate machining results.
- Perform secondary machining and finishing operations as required to support downstream assembly.
- Monitor machine performance during production runs and adjust settings to maintain precision and efficiency.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and communicate equipment or process issues to prevent downtime; elevate to the Shift Supervisor as needed.
- Assist with material handling tasks including loading, unloading, and staging materials; forklift operation required.
- Perform detailed measurements using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and other precision inspection tools.
- Complete first-piece, in-process, and final inspections to maintain exceptional product quality and conformance to specifications.
- Maintain accurate production documentation and follow established machining parameters and work instructions.
- Identify non-conforming parts and communicate quality issues promptly to the Shift Supervisor or Quality team.
- Support the overall cleanliness and organization of the machining area by following 5S standards on a daily basis.
- Work collaboratively with engineering, production, and quality teams to improve processes and solve machining challenges.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and share observations that can improve quality, efficiency, or safety.
- Supports and models STARC Systems values and mission.
- Other duties as assigned, relevant to the role and in support of the needs of the company.
- Follow all STARC Systems safety procedures and applicable OSHA regulations; wear required PPE at all times in designated areas.
- Contribute to a positive, safe work culture by modeling safe behaviors and reporting hazards or near-misses promptly.
- Participate in safety training, toolbox talks, and incident reporting as required.
- Technical certificate, associate’s degree, or equivalent experience in machining or manufacturing technology required.
- Minimum of two years of machining experience, including CNC setup and operation.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, and GD&T specifications.
- Comfortable using precision measurement tools including calipers, micrometers, and height gauges.
- Experience with manual machining equipment (lathes, mills, drill presses) a plus.
- Forklift operation required; certification preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with a commitment to precision and high-quality workmanship.
- Attention to detail and problem-solving skills; able to identify and address machining challenges proactively.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and within a collaborative team environment.
