Business Development Manager

Summary: We are seeking an entrepreneurial, high‑powered sales leader to spearhead the launch and growth of our brand‑new HVAC distribution division in the Maine market. Operating with high autonomy under our established solar and battery distribution umbrella, this individual will act as the “business owner” of the local territory. The ideal candidate will leverage deep industry networks to build an HVAC dealer base from the ground up, while strategically introducing traditional mechanical contractors to our core renewable energy and storage solutions.

This is an individual contributor role with executive‑level impact, focusing heavily on strategic market penetration, territory growth, and cross‑trade synergy.

Report To: Profit Center Manager

Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience: 5+ years of successful business development, territory management, or technical sales experience specifically within the HVAC distribution or commercial mechanical sector.
  • Local Network: An established, active network of HVAC contractors, installers, and mechanical dealers throughout the Maine market.
  • Market Launch Capability: Proven track record of building a sales territory, launching a new product line, or developing a brand footprint from the ground up (square‑zero).
  • Electrification Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of residential and commercial heat pump systems (e.g., mini‑splits, central ducted systems) and local market dynamics.
  • Technical Cross‑Over Interest: Demonstrated ability or strong aptitude to learn, pitch, and integrate solar and battery storage solutions into traditional HVAC business models.
  • Autonomy: High‑level individual contributor skills with a self‑starting, entrepreneurial mindset; capable of managing a major territory without daily direct supervision.
  • Travel: Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel extensively across the Maine territory to meet contractors face‑to‑face.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Dual‑Trade Expertise: Direct experience selling or working with solar photovoltaics (PV), residential/commercial energy storage systems (ESS), or smart home energy management platforms.
  • Efficiency Maine Familiarity: Extensive experience navigating local utility frameworks and Efficiency Maine rebate programs to maximize contractor profitability and close rates.
  • Consultative Business

    Coaching:

Proven ability to act as a business consultant to contractors, helping them launch net‑new service lines (like solar/storage) to grow their average residential ticket size.
  • Strategic Account Mapping: Proficiency using CRMs and data‑driven pipeline strategies to track complex, multi‑stage competitive displacements (poaching accounts from established distributors).
  • Educational Leadership: Experience organizing and leading contractor technical trainings, vendor “lunch‑and‑learns,” or local trade show presentations.
Working Conditions
  • Field‑Based Autonomy: Primarily a field‑focused position requiring regular travel throughout the Maine territory to engage with contractors, visit active job sites, and conduct face‑to‑face partner presentations.
  • Flexible Hybrid Structure: Split between active field travel, remote strategy planning, and collaborative office time at our local distribution facility.
  • Cross‑Functional Environment: Frequent transitions between professional corporate office spaces, active mechanical contracting shops, and warehouse environments while inspecting inventory, evaluating product lines, or hosting contractor events.
  • Seasonal Adaptation: Flexibility to navigate New England’s distinct seasonal fluctuations, shifting strategic focus during peak construction windows and adjusting approach to winter heating retrofits and critical storm‑resilience equipment demands.
  • Physical Demands: Occasional physical activity required, including the ability to lift up to 25 pounds when managing marketing assets, demonstrating component samples, or organizing product materials for contractor training sessions.
Compensation

Range: $80,000.00 to $ annually.
