Job SummaryThe Museum Security Officer has general responsibility for public safety, property protection, and for maintaining order and secure conditions within the Bowdoin College Museum of Art, on Museum grounds; responsibilities also include support to Campus Patrol and Communications Center operations.
Benefits and Pay- The hourly range for this position is expected to be: $19.65-$20.15

- A high school diploma or GED equivalent is required; college course work or Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
- The selected candidate must be able to satisfactorily complete the Department of Safety and Security’s minimum required training and qualification process; and have the ability to achieve CPR and First Aid Certification.

- Ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Ability to walk or stand for one or more hours at a time during patrol rotations
- Ability to consistently pay close attention to detail
- Experience working with the public; demonstrated basic computer experience
The Museum requires year round, 7‑days/wk security coverage. Museum Security Officer shifts (typically, 4 to 8 hours) are scheduled between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m., including weekend hours and possible overtime. This position is intended to be flexible, maintaining regularly scheduled hours/week, but the officer can be assigned to other shifts as operationally necessary; possible mandatory weekend hours and blackout days;
additional hours may be required for shift coverage, especially during significant College events (e.g., Commencement, Reunion, Large Exhibitions). Officers are subject to call in or may be required to stay beyond regular assigned hours due to operational needs, as determined by the Manager of Museum Security Operations and the Director of Safety and Security.
