Position Summary
The Medina County Sanitary Engineer’s Office is seeking a dependable and motivated Line Maintenance Worker to support the operation, maintenance, and repair of County-owned sanitary sewer systems, water distribution systems, and related infrastructure.
This position performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance activities, responds to customer service requests and emergency situations, operates specialized equipment, and assists with the installation and maintenance of water and sewer services. The successful candidate will play a vital role in maintaining reliable utility services for Medina County residents and businesses.
Key Responsibilities System Maintenance & Operations- Repair and maintain County-owned sanitary sewer lines, water distribution lines, and related appurtenances, including manholes, curb boxes, valves, hydrants, and associated infrastructure.
- Remove obstructions and perform cleaning, televising, chlorination, pressure testing, flushing, and other maintenance activities on sanitary sewers and water mains.
- Install water and sewer taps for residential, commercial, and industrial customers.
- Perform assigned work orders and maintenance tasks in a timely and professional manner.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of vehicles, equipment, and work areas.
- Complete and submit required reports, work orders, and documentation on a daily basis.
- Operate and maintain equipment associated with line maintenance activities, including flusher trucks, backhoes, front‑end loaders, excavators, vacuum trucks, gas detectors, push cameras, and television inspection trucks.
- Safely operate County-owned vehicles and equipment in accordance with departmental policies and safety standards.
- Perform routine inspections and assist with preventative maintenance activities.
- Respond to customer service requests and complaints regarding sewer and water systems.
- Participate in the department’s on‑call rotation schedule.
- Respond to after‑hours calls within one (1) hour of notification when on call, including water main breaks, leaks, grinder pump issues, cave‑ins, sewer backups, odor complaints, pressure concerns, and other emergencies.
- Assist with emergency responses outside scheduled on‑call periods as required, including weekends and holidays.
- Work overtime as needed to support operational and emergency requirements.
- Follow all departmental safety rules, procedures, and applicable regulations.
- Attend required safety, equipment, and job‑related training programs.
- Work safely in confined spaces, active construction zones, and other challenging environments.
- Maintain compliance with County policies and procedures.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid Ohio Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) with tanker and combination vehicle endorsements.
- Valid Ohio Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to maintain insurability under the County’s vehicle insurance requirements.
- Ability to work overtime, participate in on‑call rotations, and respond to emergency situations.
- Experience in sanitary sewer or water distribution system maintenance.
- Experience operating heavy equipment and utility maintenance vehicles.
- Knowledge of utility construction, excavation, and infrastructure repair practices.
- Participation in rotating on‑call schedule required.
- Overtime, weekend, and holiday work may be required based on operational needs and emergencies.
- Competitive wage based on qualifications and applicable union contract, with the 2026 wage schedule as follows:
- Starting pay: $28.84 per hour
- After one (1) year: $30.39 per hour
- After two (2) years: $31.93 per hour
