Position: Natural Sciences (Biology) Faculty
Applications are being accepted for a Natural Sciences Faculty at Northwest State Community College.  The Natural Sciences Faculty will be responsible for classroom instruction. They will provide leadership in the development, assessment, and evaluation of curriculum in existing courses, new courses, and related programs. They will actively participate in student advising. They will participate in department meetings and college committees.

* Facilitate classroom and clinical instruction:

* Prepare, present, and evaluate course materials related to the instructional strategies which are based on the course and clinical learning objectives.

* Provide adequate feedback/explanation of graded coursework and other student information in an accurate and timely manner.

* Ensure a positive and favorable learning environment in the classroom, labs, and campus while maintaining and following proper safety protocols.

* Responsible for classroom and lab equipment, maintenance, and supplies.

* Lead the development, assessment, and evaluation of curriculum:

* Complete assessment and evaluation of existing courses and program curriculum; revises course materials and activities as needed for improvement.

* Develop new courses and programs including assessment, evaluation, course syllabi, and select appropriate texts and ancillary materials.

* Attend statewide articulation and transfer meetings and/or remain abreast of transfer and articulation policy; maker curricular recommendations and changes based on statewide transfer and articulation policies.

* Provide leadership to part-time instructors, laboratory coordinator(s), and student workers.

* Participate in student recruitment and retention:

* Arranges and maintains suitable office hours for student advising and academic assistance.

* Provide academic advising and counseling to students assisting with course selection and academic requirements.

* Facilitate collaborative partnerships with outside agencies including:

* Colleges and universities

* High schools

* Career Centers/Tech Prep/dual enrollment

* Professional associations, involvement is encouraged.

* Attend and participate in departmental, faculty meetings, and college committees and other scheduled meetings/activities at which attendance is expected.

* Completes assigned tasks in a timely manner and follows established college policies and procedures.

* Engage in professional development activities to maintain and enhance course content and instructional skills.

* Other similar duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

* Master's degree in Biology or a master's degree and a cohesive set of at least 18 semester credit hours of graduate coursework in Biology.

* Teaching experience preferred.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

* Working knowledge in educational theory or techniques

* Working knowledge of statewide transfer and articulation policies

* Ability to lead development of new courses

* Ability and skill to assess and plan courses

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

Aid in the support of part-time instructors, lab coordinator(s), and student workers.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR PUBLIC CONTACT

Position will interact with and may conduct presentations for NSCC and other college personnel, equipment vendors, students and their parents, high school employees, business and industry personnel, and the general public.
