The basic function of the Asphalt General Superintendent is to effectively supervise all aspects of the Knife River workforce, subcontractors, and to ensure that all aspects of the project are coordinated and completed in a timely, efficient, effective and profitable manner.

Minimum Qualifications
  • 8 years of asphalt paving industry or related experience (preferred)
  • 3 years supervising crews and equipment (preferred)
  • Current driver's license with acceptable driving record
  • Flexible with schedule
Responsibilities
  • Supervise multiple foremen and subcontractors on one or more paving projects
  • Work closely with Construction Manager, General Manager, Plant Manager, Project Engineers and other key personnel
  • Review daily cost reports
  • Manage project schedule
  • Communicate progress to key individuals
  • Meet with agencies and owners to build and maintain relationships
  • Communicate and manage daily equipment needs with service department
  • Coordinate trucking with Logistics Manager and Trucking Supervisor
  • Provide training and direction to key personnel
  • Travel to project locations
  • Work a flexible schedule both days and nights
  • Perform other duties as required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build and maintain relationships
  • Effective communication with crews, foremen, supervisors, agencies, owners and the community
  • Ability to schedule workers, subcontractors and suppliers to keep projects on schedule
  • Ability to supervise construction projects effectively and efficiently
  • Strong organizational and prioritizing skills
  • Thorough understanding of industry practices and regulatory compliance requirements
  • Work well under pressure and with tight deadlines
  • Ability to think critically and change plan quickly as needed
  • Proficient with iPad and web‑based scheduling, tracking and time‑keeping applications
  • Ability to identify, troubleshoot and resolve problems on projects before they become major issues
  • Attention to detail is critical
  • Able to ensure projects are in compliance with the Company’s Safety and Health Manual
  • Ability to work on weekends, public holidays, and at night
  • Ability to work for long hours in all weather conditions
  • Knowledge of road and traffic regulations
  • Must have strong work ethic
