Job Description

The Instructional Designer II will collaborate with subject‑matter experts to develop course content. Responsibilities include needs assessment, learning objective identification, course outline development, storyboarding, content creation, formative assessment, and evaluation, ensuring alignment with approved outlines and maintaining quality, consistency, and productivity across all materials.

Responsibilities
  • Develop a deep understanding of the manufacturing professional education course portfolio.
  • Identify problem situations, gather relevant information, generate solutions, and recommend or resolve issues.
  • Own project issues and follow them through to completion.
  • Present ideas and concepts to internal and external stakeholders and clients.
  • Conduct client and SME interviews, reviewing documents and collecting context to understand project goals.
  • Design learner‑centric solutions, ranging from single workshops to multi‑part certification programs.
  • Build slides, write scenarios, cases, facilitator notes, video scripts, and measurement tools.
  • Collect feedback from learners, clients, and the team to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with client services and broader learning and development teams (editors, graphic designers) on training development.
  • Recommend enhancements or revisions to course materials, delivery methods, and instructional practices.
  • Integrate feedback into training materials and delivery for continuous improvement.
  • Conduct initial needs assessment and content analysis in collaboration with industry and SMEs.
  • Author original content and modify existing materials with SMEs.
  • Create design documents (course outlines, storyboards, mockups) to guide course development.
  • Design assessments and evaluation methods.
  • Provide input on solution design or support delivery as needed.
  • Engage directly with minors or youth during program activities, adhering to safety regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Required:

    Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience; at least two years of related experience.
  • Helpful:
    Experience writing and building adult learning materials across modalities (face‑to‑face, live‑virtual, presentation capture, self‑directed). Prior experience with SME collaboration in engineering or technical fields. Instructional design experience with wire framing, storyboarding, and . Project management experience and ability to prioritize workloads. Familiarity with learning management systems (e.g., Canvas). Spanish speaking or creation of Spanish‑translated content preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • General knowledge of learning theories and technology.
  • Strong leadership skills in communicating complex processes simply.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Proficiency with project management systems.
  • Strong influencing, interpersonal, and interdepartmental skills in a diverse higher‑education environment.
  • Superior presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Excellent writing, communication, and editing abilities.
  • Ability to balance team and individual responsibilities.
  • Excellent time‑management skills to prioritize project timelines.
