Director for Faculty Affairs

Reports to the Senior Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Professional Development. Coordinates and supervises faculty affairs staff to manage, comply with, and ensure efficient day‑to‑day and long‑term faculty affairs activities for the College of Medicine, including faculty recruitment, hiring, onboarding, reviews, promotion and tenure, professional development, shared governance, and adjunct faculty relations.

Responsibilities Affiliated Faculty Support
  • Administers appointments, evaluations, reappointments, credentialing, promotions, and other support for ~2,500 adjunct affiliate clinical faculty.
  • Maintains and updates the Affiliate Faculty Portal for the College.
Faculty Recruitment, Hiring, Onboarding, and Retention
  • Manages complex processes to recruit, hire, and onboard new faculty.
  • Collaborates with College departments, Business Office, Dean’s Office, Provost’s Office, HR, and other units for efficient hiring.
  • Prepares reappointment letters, joint appointments, adjunct appointments, and maintains records of faculty effort, workload, rank, title, and personnel actions.
Faculty Evaluations and Reviews
  • Administers annual reviews, mid‑term reviews, promotion and tenure reviews, post‑tenure reviews, endowed professor/chair reviews, emeritus approvals, and faculty awards/recognition.
  • Plans and communicates timelines, collaborates with faculty, departments, and university units, monitors policies and procedures to ensure compliance.
Administration and Staff Management
  • Leads faculty affairs staff, establishes performance expectations, holds regular one‑on‑one meetings, and ensures accountability.
  • Monitors office records, files, communications, and pending deadlines for timely actions.
  • Works with senior faculty leaders to develop seminars, workshops, wellness initiatives, and retention programs.
  • Manages the office budget and ensures fiscal responsibility.
  • Serves on university, division, and departmental committees, and represents the department at state and national associations.
Other Duties
  • Identifies improvement areas, troubleshoots, and recommends process improvements for the Office of Faculty Affairs.
Qualifications
  • Education:

    Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience:

    Minimum ten (10) years of complex administrative work, including supervisory experience. Preferred:
    Master’s degree and at least ten (10) years of similar experience.
  • Knowledge:
    Higher education and/or faculty affairs, Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook), database management.
  • Skills:

    Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal and organizational abilities, data compilation and analysis, listening, and problem‑solving.
  • Abilities:
    Effectively communicate with faculty, staff, and administration; manage multiple tasks and anticipate needs.
