Overview
Transportation Engineer I - II Bryan AO - (2600255). TxDOT’s Bryan District is looking for a Transportation Engineer I or II in the Bryan Area Office (AO). The Bryan Area Office offers challenging projects in urban and rural settings providing innovative solutions to complex traffic problems. ResponsibilitiesPerforms complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Works with governmental officials and private entities. Works independently on assignments; unusual issues are referred to the supervisor. Acts as a consultant to staff engineers to coordinate construction operations.
Assists district and division personnel on material and/or fabrication requirements and advises on appropriate material and/or fabrication application and acceptability. Assists in overseeing construction project traffic control plans; periodically reviews traffic control devices with Area Engineers. Assists in reviewing shop drawings prepared by fabricators for bridges and related structures. Assists Project Managers related to resource assignments, schedules, scope, communication, quality, and/or procurement, while utilizing available resources and maintaining the agency's project objectives.
Develops and/or reviews engineering related documents, correspondence, reports and remediation plans. Drives/travels to project/work locations to make on-site engineering reviews, analyses, tests and to provide technical support. Resolves differences between contractors and inspectors. * Assists Area Engineers with construction contract administration matters.
Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science; bachelor’s or higher degree accepted by TX PELS.
ExperienceExperience can be satisfied by full-time or prorated part-time equivalent. Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications are allowed as applicable.
Licenses and CertificationsValid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle. Licensed Professional Engineer. If performing underwater bridge inspections:
Open Water Diver certification. For Bridge Inspection: completion of a comprehensive training course based on the Bridge Inspector's Training Manual or NICET Level III or IV certification in Bridge Safety Inspection within one year of hire. If licensed in another state, must obtain Texas licensure within six months and sign an agreement as a condition of employment.
