Job Description - District Engineer, Bryan

The Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is seeking a District Engineer for the Bryan District. This leadership role involves strategic transportation initiatives, oversight of planning, operations, construction, maintenance, safety, and environmental functions, and regular travel of approximately 25%.

• Cooperate with the Federal Highway Administration and local entities on federal aid projects and highway maintenance agreements.
• Coordinate transportation matters across state lines and promote multimodalism.
• Direct operations of a regional surveillance, communication and control center.
• Prepare funding, planning, right‑of‑way, construction, maintenance, and operation agreements with cities, counties, transit agencies, and private entities.
• Develop work programs for the metropolitan area, including short‑ and long‑range construction, maintenance, and traffic control.
• Provide direction for construction projects, resolve contractor disputes, and ensure compliance with specifications.
• Lead highway and bridge maintenance and oversee preventive maintenance programs.
• Represent the Department to the public through media presentations and civic activities.
• Serve on or chair research committees to identify transportation design innovations.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

• Education
  :
  Bachelor’s degree in an engineering‑related discipline; graduate education may substitute experience on a year‑per‑year basis.
• Experience
  :
  Six years in transportation engineering as a Licensed Professional Engineer (LPE) in planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance; and five years of managerial or supervisory experience.

• Valid driver’s license; this position requires driving a state vehicle.
• Texas Licensed Professional Engineer. Engineers licensed in other U.S. states must obtain a Texas license within six months of hire and sign an agreement.

• Sedentary work; lift up to 10 lbs and occasionally move files or tools.
• Prolonged standing and repetitive wrist and finger movements.
• Must pass a drug test; this safety impact position is subject to random drug testing. Medical marijuana is not a valid exemption under federal regulations.
