GIS Technician

Job Summary

Creates and maintains GIS layers for the City of Bryan’s Public Works Department.

• Creates maps to assist maintenance crews on location of infrastructure.
• Coordinates the collection and entry of GPS data and incorporates the data into the GIS.
• Reads and interprets engineering drawings to add new infrastructure into the GIS.
• Updates GIS maps to reflect maintenance and repairs to existing infrastructure.
• Collaborates with other GIS users within the City of Bryan to maintain data integrity.
• Provides technical support to other GIS users within the city.
• Performs related duties as required.
• Responds regularly and promptly to work.

• High School Diploma or GED plus at least five (5) years of work experience utilizing GIS and GPS;
• or an Associate’s degree with significant coursework in Geographic Information Systems, Spatial Sciences, Geospatial Technology, or a related field of study plus at least one (1) year of work experience utilizing GIS and GPS;
• or an equivalent combination of education, experience, certification, and training that provides the knowledge and skills necessary to perform the job.

• Bachelor’s degree with significant coursework in Geography, Spatial Sciences, or a related field of study plus one year of experience utilizing GIS and GPS.

Texas Class C driver’s license with a good driving record as measured by the City’s evaluation system.
