Job SummaryThe Lead Medical Technologist/Laboratory Quality Coordinator (LMT/LQC) will assist the System Laboratory Director with quality improvement initiatives as a member of multi-disciplinary patient care services. This will include servicing the areas in Houston, Bryan, and San Antonio, Texas and all future PPER areas. The LMT/LQC from time to time performs clinical laboratory procedures, quality assurance, and instrument maintenance to assist site laboratories.
The LMT/LQC will also maintain cooperative working relationships with intradepartmental and ER sites.
- Assists leadership in the identification and resolution of complex clinical and operational issues.
- Monitor Quality Control system and measures.
- Comprehensive troubleshooting of laboratory instruments and resolving any problems.
- Content expert on all laboratory equipment, usage, benefits, and compliance.
- Documents all instrument checks, preventive maintenance, routines, problems, and corrective actions taken.
- Provides in-service training to other laboratory staff.
- Performs clerical functions associated with the designated laboratory area.
- Attends regular department staff meetings and in-service training.
- Participates in the preparation of the laboratory continuing education programs.
- Will be involved in performing direct observation regarding moderate complexity testing.
- Will review and monitor proficiency testing scores and assist with corrective action.
- Will execute validation plans for system instruments.
- Serves as the trainer and main educator to staff and physicians as appropriate on all new equipment or upgrades of current equipment.

LANGUAGE
SKILLS:
- Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Technologist: 2+ years with the ability to conduct competency sign-off.
- Completion of an accredited medical technology program or the equivalent training, education, and experience.
- Strong Communication skills; both written and verbal.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
