Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Physical Therapist with at least 2 years of inpatient acute care experience and active state licensure.

Responsibilities
  • Position is in an inpatient acute care setting
  • Work primarily involves acute care at a Level III trauma center with possible minimal coverage at a second nearby acute care hospital
  • 8-hour day shifts from 8:00am to 4:30pm, with a requirement for 2 full weekends per month and alternation for holiday coverage
  • First to float status may be required
  • Patient population includes adults and older teens in telemetry, ortho, surgical, critical care, neuro, oncology, and general medical units
  • Expectation is 1 completed evaluation per hour; daily treatments may involve up to 10 patient sessions per 8 hour shift
  • Team consists of 5 PTAs and 2-3 techs on average
  • Uses Meditech for EMR; orientation provided
  • Physical therapists are primarily responsible for patient evaluations and may perform daily treatments as needed
  • Call outs are strongly discouraged and may lead to termination
  • May be asked to precept as needed by the unit
  • Floor-specific orientation to hospital, EMR, and protocols provided lasting 3-5 days depending on acute care experience
  • Alternating holiday coverage is required
  • Maroon scrubs are required attire
  • Candidates may not have been directly employed by Common Spirit, CHI, or Dignity facilities within the past year unless employed PRN through outside firms
  • Travelers hired in certain states (AZ, NV, NE, IA, MN) must reside at least 50 miles from the facility; in CO, KS, UT at least 60 miles
Requirements
  • Minimum 2 years of recent inpatient acute care physical therapy experience required
  • Active State or Compact (NLC) Physical Therapy license required; pending licenses not accepted (License required if applicable)
  • Current BLS certification required
  • Experience with Meditech EMR preferred
  • Copy of driver’s license required for consideration
  • Two references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and rehire eligibility
