Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Level III Trauma Emergency Department position requiring TX or compact RN licensure and at least 2 years of ED experience in a similarly sized, high-volume facility.

Details
  • Level III Trauma Center and Primary Stroke Center with comprehensive capabilities
  • 30-bed ER with 2 trauma bays and 24 acute care beds
  • Separate triage area ("first eyes" nurse) and a fast track area called "vertical care"
  • ER holds and psych/seclusion patients are intermixed within the department
  • Averages 135 patients per day, with 10-15% pediatric cases and a high trauma volume from a 9-county service area
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios vary by acuity: 1:3-4 general acute, 1:1-2 Level I trauma, 1:1 TNK (first hour), 1:6-8 vertical care
  • Common diagnoses include chest pain, N&V, fever, altered mental status, and trauma (falls, MVAs, ATV accidents, assaults)
  • Performs chest tubes, rapid transfusions, and cares for intubated patients
  • Common drips include Diltiazem, Cardene, Nitro, Propofol, Fentanyl, and Levophed
  • Uses Pulse Check or Picis EMR (MEDITECH also referenced for charting)
  • 24/7 in-house RT, X-ray, CT, and phlebotomy support
  • 12-hour day shifts with varied  start times
  • Every other weekend and rotating holiday coverage (1 major holiday) required
  • No call or standby requirements
  • May float as helping hands within the unit and will float between Bryan and College Station campuses (16 minutes apart) as needed
  • Hybrid self-scheduling and block scheduling model
Requirements
  • Active TX or Compact RN license required
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, and NIHSS
  • Minimum 2-3 years of recent ED experience required
  • Experience in a facility with similar patient volume, trauma level, and size required
  • Must pass the Advanced Dysrhythmia exam (83%) prior to contract signing, with up to three attempts allowed
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including employment dates and rehire eligibility
  • Copy of driver's license required for consideration to verify legal name match
Additional Information
  • Provide direct patient care across acute, trauma, and vertical care areas of a busy ER
  • May be asked to precept as needed by the unit
  • Free-floating charge nurse responds to codes and rapid responses; will take an assignment if needed
  • Care team includes 24/7 in-house security, on-site RT, and dedicated X-ray/CT transporters
  • Unit has a strong culture with an active Shared Governance structure and Unit-Based Council (UBC)
  • Unit orientation includes 3 shifts in the ER
  • Navy scrubs required, including undershirts; navy scrub jackets optional
  • Call-outs are strongly discouraged and may result in termination
  • Candidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) by any Common Spirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity, within the past year; PRN employment through outside staffing firms will be considered
  • First-time travelers may be considered
