Job Summary

This position serves as Principal Investigator, Co-PI, or lead researcher in the Roadside Safety and Physical Security Division. The incumbent will conduct applied research, manage projects, develop proposals, and facilitate technology transfer.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct applied research, including engineering and simulation analyses for roadside safety devices and crash testing.
  • Plan, schedule, coordinate, and report on research and development projects.
  • Perform literature reviews, background research, and data collection to support methodologies.
  • Manage multidisciplinary teams of research staff, graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Compile, document, and present research results in reports, technical memoranda, and presentations.
  • Prepare and submit external‑funding proposals as Principal Investigator, Co‑PI, or key researcher.
  • Present research findings to sponsors, clients, and at conferences.
  • Coordinate research meetings and documentation.
  • Perform additional duties assigned by the Department.
Required

Education and Experience
  • Master’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Minimum three (3) years of professional experience in non‑linear finite element modeling and simulation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with LS‑DYNA, Hyper Mesh, Solid Works, and related software.
  • Proficiency in computer programming and roadside safety design.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong technical writing and analytical abilities.
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Collaborative teamwork skills.
